Heading into Term 4 and what a different feeling there is amongst the Year 12s compared to our previous years. Talk is all about the final weeks at school – some happy, some not, the practice exams we just had during our “holiday” break and how we think we went, dress up day and the costume of choice, our valedictory dinner and what everyone is wearing, university preferences to be chosen and of course the upcoming final end of year exams. It feels so close to the finish line yet still so far with so many loose ends to tie up.

Many tips are coming our way on how to handle the upcoming important weeks but one common bit of advice is relax and enjoy this time as it actually does go fast. This is something I am going to try and do. I’d like to thank all the teachers who have helped me along the way and this year’s Student Managers - Mr Hudd, Ms James and Mr Blackmore and of course Ms Felmingham, Mr Noble, Mr Kan, Dr Long, Mr Quinn and Mrs Binnion. Also thank you to my fellow captains and our student senior school council. It’s been an eye opener on how much all these people put in behind the scenes to make our year special and memorable.

Someone else I’d like to thank who has been at many of my school events, is our school photographer Andrew Krause. He has captured so many of my most memorable events at school with that big impressive camera of his which I am very thankful for. Thank you for the memories Krausey.

The beginning and end of a chapter.

Only yesterday does it feel like we walked through the doors to the East Campus for the very first time, but in the blink of an eye here we are, in the final stretch of our first full year back in school since 2019! For some this means the end of our Junior School journey, for others this means the beginning of a new chapter at this breathtaking campus we have called home since its opening.

The end of the year truly does come with just as many new beginnings as it gives us endings. Our Year 12s prepare for their new lives outside of school, Year 11s get ready for their final chapter in their high school journey, Year 6s are soon to be welcomed into the community and Year 9s await their transition to the Senior School.

It’s truly incredible how fast our time here has flown and quite honestly I know a lot of us aren’t ready to say our goodbyes so soon. What a way to experience our very first whole school year as a part of the McKinnon Secondary College community!

However, there is also a heartbreaking goodbye we have to make that no one is ready for. That is to none other than our beloved and adored Principal Mrs Binnion. And what a legacy she has left for McKinnon Secondary College. Being there for her school every step of the way since the second she was appointed, honouring our learning and achievements, gaining overwhelming amounts of love from her students, staff, parents and many members of the community, but most importantly giving McKinnon the unbeatable reputation we hold so dearly.

How lucky we are to have been led by such a kind, compassionate, caring and adored Principal and how hard it will be to wave her off. We know that the shoes she has left to fill couldn’t be given to anyone better suited than our own Mr Kan, but she will always be a huge part of what makes McKinnon, McKinnon. We truly wish her the very best and could never thank such a cherished Principal enough for all that she has given us. Thank you Mrs Binnion!

I wish everyone a very happy final term and good luck to wherever your next chapter will take you.
