Curriculum

What a wonderful week we had in Foundation! In English we were very excited to introduce new codes. During Term 1 we had met the first 26 codes, which were made up of single letters. Now we are beginning to meet double letter codes which will help us when we are decoding words when reading and to write the sounds that we can hear in words in writing. See Mrs McCoy's videos in this newsletter to hear all the codes. We went on a code spotting hunt through our favourite books and Magic 100 Common Words to see what these codes look like in real life. We also played new games to help us practice reading and writing our Magic 100 Words and used pictures to help us retell the story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. In Maths we used dominoes to help us practice counting a small collection, subitizing and adding numbers.

This week you will notice that we have scaled back our activities each day to one English activity along with one Mathematics and one Choosing Board activity for each day. This week in English we will be writing a letter to our teacher to talk about our feelings of coming back to school. We will also be continuing with a handwriting focus, this week looking at the formation of the letter 'j.' We will be introduced to five new codes and will complete another code spotting hunt through our books and around our homes searching for these new codes. In Mathematics we will be continuing to use our dominoes and dice to help with subitizing, number recognition and counting small collections through playing different kinds of games such as ‘Domino Dice Match’. We will also be playing a part-part-whole game with dice, which will help us learn different ways to count parts to make a whole number. We continue with our Choosing Board for different Guided Inquiry and Wellbeing activities.

We are extremely excited that next week we will be heading back into school and back into our classrooms! It goes without saying that this is a very exciting time for the Foundation students and teachers, however we will be taking lots of precautions to ensure we are all safe. Some reminders are to ensure we are bringing our Orange Folders every day and drink bottles as students will not be able to drink from the drinking fountains. For more information please see the Principals Message in the Newsletter.

We greatly appreciate all of your incredible hard work and support during these extraordinary times. We have felt like such a strong team and are truly grateful for all of our Foundation families.

Have a wonderful week, we will see you all very soon!
