a word from our leaders

Hats

During the months of June and July, the wearing of a hat when spending time outside for a relatively short period of time, eg recess, lunch and sport lessons, will be optional.

Playground Restrictions

The junior playground remains closed at the end of the school day as it is not possible for us to monitor social distancing, nor manage the size of gatherings.

Thank you for your understanding.

Nominations to School Council

Nominations remain open for School Council 2021.

School governance (the work of the School Council) fundamentally relates to:

  • the process of setting, guiding and monitoring the School’s future direction;
  • ensuring the School operates within its relevant legal and other boundaries;
  • driving school performance (through the Principal appointed by the Council); and
  • establishing appropriate internal control processes and accountability systems.

As we seek again in 2020 to succession plan and recruit for future Council effectiveness and stability, we ask that each community member prayerfully consider one’s own skillset, experience and potential ability to value add to our Council.  Look also, to challenge others, whom you see exciting qualities in, and who might continue the great work of the many Councillors who have faithfully and passionately served the School since our inception in 1981. (We’ll be 40 next year!)

Nomination forms have been previously forwarded to all families and are also available on request.

Semester 1 Academic Reports

The Australian Curriculum defines a solid foundation in knowledge, understanding, skills

and values for all Australian children. It recognises that children are different: they develop at different rates, have different learning preferences and areas of interest.

Learning continuity during the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic meant Good Shepherd Lutheran School implemented adaptive and innovative ways to deliver learning in two very different environments; school and home. In Semester 1, as students have transitioned across diverse learning environments, evidence of learning has been collected to show achievement in the focal learning areas taught. It is anticipated that teachers will use this evidence of learning to inform an expanded and more extensive Semester 2 report.

For Semester 1 only, this will look a little different to our 'regular' academic report.

Personal effort will not be included in the Semester 1 report to allow for a more accurate assessment and further evidence of this learning to be observed and applied throughout Term 3-4.

We will be delivering our Academic Reports at the end of the term in line with the Government guidelines:

Information which gives an accurate and objective assessment of the student's progress

and achievement, including an assessment of the student's achievement:

- against any available national standards; and

- relative to the performance of the student's peer group.

We acknowledge the tremendous efforts of our classroom and specialist teachers over Semester 1 who have lived out the dispositions and capabilities we value so highly: collaboration, creativity, resilience, grit, determination, empathy, compassion and communication. These highly professional educators morphed into online specialists...then back again! They have continued to know and understand your children and how they learn best.

We urge you to celebrate growth and learning through what has been an unsettling time for all children. Have conversations which include a growth mindset as you set new goals for Semester 2. Thank you for partnering with us. We value you and your support.

End of Term

Term 2 finishes on Friday 26 June.
