Spotlight: Year 3/4 Community

 Focus: Self-awareness and social awareness

In Wellbeing sessions, the Year 3/4 students have been working on their self and social awareness.

Students listened to the story called 'Being Frank'. They explored the fact that sometimes honesty is NOT the best policy. Sometimes being TOO honest can hurt the feelings of others. Here are some examples that we came up with of being too honest;

  • Your breath smells!
  • I don't like your brother
  • Your singing voice hurts my ears
  • Your hair looks weird today

Students also listened to the story titled 'The Spiffiest Giant in Town'. They reflected on the message of the story- it is what's on the inside that counts. It doesn't matter if we don't have the spiffiest possessions, the greatest possession of all is kindness. The students created kindness cards for the people they love.

These kindness cards were created by Kate, Keagan, Wil, Eamon and Harper.

Random Acts of Kindness

At this time of isolation, uncertainty and craziness, it’s so easy to become focused on our own little worlds. Which is why it’s more important than ever that we take time to think of others. Even during isolation there are little things we can do to show kindness and add some sparkle to the lives of others!

This is my favourite video which shows the power of random acts of kindness, no matter how little the act may seem. I think you'll enjoy the song too!

Here is a list of random acts of kindness that you and your family can do whilst in isolation to help brighten other people’s days!

- Decorate your local footpath with chalk! You might include words of encouragement, uplifting phrases or draw hopscotch for kids walking past

- Pick up rubbish on a walk around the block

- Pay it forward when you purchase your coffee, so the person after you scores a free coffee! ( I know coffee is definitely the way to my heart!)

- Say thank you to an essential worker

- Make thank you cards for doctors and nurses

-Make up a dance routine with the family and send a video of it to your loved ones (who knows, your video might go viral!)

 - Send flowers to someone who is doing it tough at the moment

- Send a care package to a loved one

- Send a thoughtful text message or a video of your family saying an uplifting message

- Offer to grab groceries for someone who can’t

order a takeaway meal to be delivered

- Check in on your neighbours with a letter or card

- Deliver baked goods or snacks to someone’s front door

- Create a group challenge that everyone can join in on and enjoy (push up challenge, create a Tik Tok dance)

- Send a birthday present to someone celebrating their birthday

- Arrange a virtual coffee/Milo and catch up with a friend

- Find a workout video on YouTube that you can do with a friend and Face Time while you do it

- Drop off essentials to a mum with a baby (e.g. nappies, wipes, games for kids)

- Send an activity pack to someone who has kids home from school (e.g. puzzles, board games, art supplies)

- Send some photos of you and your family to your parents/grandparents

- Make positive quote cards and deliver them to random letterboxes

- Mow the neighbor's lawn
