'My 2040' Saving the Planet

Mooroopna Campus Year 9

SOLAR OVEN CONSTRUCTION

This week, students in the 'My 2040' elective have been learning about renewable energy. The Goulburn Valley is already home to a solar farm that can be found in Numurkah. It consists of 373,839 photovoltaic panels spread over 515 hectares, producing 120 megawatts of electricity! There are plans for another solar farm just outside of Mooroopna, which will produce enough renewable energy equivalent to taking either 78,000 cars off the road or planting 400,000 trees, producing enough electricity to power approximately 43,000 homes.

The Learning Task set for this week centred around constructing a solar oven made from a pizza box and other household items. Unfortunately, the weather conditions this week have been less than ideal!

S’mores (an American camping favourite of chocolate and marshmallows sandwiched between two flat biscuits) are a good treat to cook into your pizza box solar oven.
