Return to Face-to-Face Learning

On Monday 25th May staff at Greater Shepparton Secondary College will join together, whilst observing social distancing requirements, for the first time in Term 2 for a Curriculum Day. Together we will plan for the return of our students to face-to-face teaching and ensure that all measures are put in place for a smooth transition back to school.

Greater Shepparton Secondary College are very excited to welcome our Year 11 and Year 12 students (and Year 10 fast-tracking students) back to school on Tuesday 26th May.

Staff look forward to reconnecting with our senior students with the reintroduction of face-to-face teaching.

Many strategies and processes have been put in place to ensure that our senior students have the opportunity to complete any assessments that they were unable to access during flexible and remote learning.

On Tuesday 9th June all students will return to Greater Shepparton Secondary College. The staff look forward to teaching students face-to-face, but also look forward to continuing to implement the use of the new and innovative online tools we have embraced during the period of remote and flexible learning.

Students now have a strong understanding of our Compass communication platform and will continue to regularly access their Newsfeed and Learning Tasks.

TEAMS has also played a pivotal role in teaching and learning at Greater Shepparton Secondary College during Term 2, and we will continue to utilise this learning tool, when appropriate, to continue to enhance eLearning at the College.

The Learning Mentor Coordinators at each of the Campuses (Katy Price, Kathryn Keen, and Julie Donaldson) have created a tailored Learning Mentor curriculum for when students return to Greater Shepparton Secondary College.

The program includes the reintroduction of SWPBS (School Wide Positive Behaviours in School), and a variety of lessons that focus on reconnecting peers, re-establishing positive learning habits, and introducing our current way of living with safe social distancing and sanitising measures.

All students and staff at Greater Shepparton Secondary College will return to school in very positive spirits with the government announcement that we are to receive full funding of $119 million to build our new school.

Staff will be working extremely hard on completing the new and innovative Year 8 and Year 10 common curriculum equipped with the knowledge that we will be moving into our new school in 2022.

The new Year 8 and Year 10 curriculum will provide some extremely exciting opportunities for our students. Students in Year 8 will have the opportunity to build on their learning from Year 7 with a continuation of the Core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, and Physical Education.

They will also have the opportunity to continue learning their selected languages subject of Italian, Auslan or Japanese, and they will have the opportunity to experience the full rotation of the Arts and Technology subjects (Music, Visual Arts, Performance Arts, Media Arts, Wood and Plastics, Digital Technology Textiles, and Food Studies).

Students in Year 10 will have the opportunity to select from a large number of electives that all have a direct pathway to VCE, VET or VCAL. These electives, along with the Core English and Mathematics subjects will provide students at Greater Shepparton Secondary College with a strong foundation that will provide substantive preparation for entry into their senior years of schooling.
