House competition

House leaders

This week we meet some more of our 2020 House Leaders and found out what they have been up to. They were asked the following questions:

  1. Please provide a short description of how your term has been going for you
  2. What are some things you have continued to do during these different times that may make you happy, focused or less stressed and keep you healthy?

Madeleine Salisbury – Kenny Senior House Leader

  1. I have actually been thoroughly enjoying online learning as I feel that I work best from home
  2. I'm making sure I maintain a routine that is as close to my normal school routine as possible eg. exercising, practicing music, or going to work when I usually would

Piper Adeney – Mackellar Senior House Leader

  1. It certainly hasn't been an easy adjustment to online school! It can be really hard, but I am trying to look at all the positives that are coming out of this. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at school again, and I just know we are all going to be so much closer because of this.
  2. Taking walks with my family! Getting fresh air and exercise is so important, especially when you are looking at a screen all day. I have also continued to do the things I love, including singing, and have picked up a few new hobbies like drawing and colouring.

Daisy Walker – Kenny Senior House Leader

  1. Very different, as to be expected. Its been difficult as I have to find new ways to teach myself content and adapt to new changes. I'm quite stressed and feel unmotivated but trying to stay on top of my work.
  2. I have been on Zoom with my footy team doing fitness/strength sessions. We are staying on top of our training so when the season comes back we are good to go!!

Ananya Pradham – Jackson Junior House Leader

  1. Term 2 has been really fun. All the teachers are trying their best to provide us with quality education online. All subjects are on track and in most we are about to start new CATs.
  2. Every morning I wake up early and do a 10-50 minute workout. After having breakfast school starts. For most subjects I FaceTime friends and we work through all the assigned class work together. I try to keep my diet balanced and take my dog for a walk after school to get some fresh air. I have been trying to learn new dishes and been practicing art as a de-stressing activity

Virtual Cross Country event

As our Cross Country, due to be held on Friday 8 May, was cancelled we have decided to offer to our community the option to participate in virtual Cross Country.

A virtual Cross Country involves you going and completing your run on your own course either by yourself or with a family member and uploading the run to the 'Strava' running app between until Friday 22 May. It was so pleasing to see the positive responses from our MGSC community, striving to reach the 3km distance at every opportunity with many students reaching this beyond and on several times throughout their busy weeks!

The following students were our leaders in week 1 and 2:

3rd –Mackenzie Scott and Lily Shipman

2nd – Dana Bahlieda

1st – Millie Belleville

Keep up the great work MGSC – there will be plenty more opportunities to engage in our virtual events going forward.

The challenge during week 5 was either:

MGSC House Mascot Design competition

The 2020 House Leaders are wanting students to design a house mascot for your House. Create your mascot using any art form you want (drawing, paint, digital art, clay, etc) as long as we can receive a clear photo of it.

Your mascot must be in your house colour (so go crazy- create a purple monkey). For an extra challenge and an extra chance to win, make your mascot start with the same letter as your house eg a Kenny Koala.

Submit the design using the Google form in the Newsfeed by the Monday 22 June. The winning design for each house will become the new mascot and receive 100 house points with any submission being awarded 10 points.
