A note from Odette

Fatigue! It seems to be a common theme around campus. Many students have commented to me they feel tired and overwhelmed, maybe you are seeing some of this in your house too?

As life settles into its new balance and school routines resume, its completely normal to now experience some of the side effects of experiencing rapid change and uncertainty. Think of it like a depleted emotional fuel tank, much of the fuel has been used up staying afloat through change and adjustments, and now that familiar routines re-establish your body is letting you know its running on empty.

One great response to these feelings is simply to recognise it for what it is! I have been reassuring students that these feelings are normal and not unexpected after a period of rapid change. Reminding them that this is simply a curve in the road, but it doesn’t determine the direction of the road. Once this perspective is in place, some of the fear can lift and work can begin on strategies.

Good starting points are encouraging regular exercise, getting to bed at a healthy time,

communicating with teachers about work load stress and negotiating solutions together, talking about feelings rather than feeling alone and overwhelmed. In amongst the negatives they may be feeling, there are lots of positives they may need help recognising and this all contributes to refilling those tanks.

For many this is enough, but others may need some extra strategies and support tailored to their situation. If this is you, please do not hesitate to get in touch or drop past my office to chat.

I am still looking for volunteers to help with the school toilet project. If you have some creative flair and would like to be involved, please let me know! https://www.enlighteneducation.com/school-toilet-project/
