Blessings to Archbishop O’Regan

The installation of Archbishop Patrick O’Regan to the Adelaide

Archdiocese occurred over the weekend. As my previous writings

about him included, we have been privileged and blessed with the

leadership that Bishop Patrick bestowed upon us for the past five

years in the Diocese of Sale. His pastoral commitment and various

initiatives within the diocese provided strength and empowerment to

schools and their communities. He has been a pastoral leader whose

service has been generously given. His ministry will be sorely missed

but he will remain in our prayers.

Please find attached, a link to a letter he has shared with the people

of our diocese.

Pentecost Sunday

We celebrate a very important liturgical event in our calendar this

Sunday. Pentecost Sunday is the celebration of the birth of the

Catholic Church. Pentecost was a harvest festival that was

celebrated fifty days after Passover. People from towns and villages

would travel together to Jerusalem to offer the first fruits of the

wheat harvest in the Temple and give thanks to God.

The Holy Spirit came upon the apostles in the symbolic form of the

flame, strengthening them and enabling them to speak many

different languages proclaiming the Word of God. Miraculously, each

person heard the preaching in his or her own language.

‘And they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with
other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.’ (Acts 2:4)

The Kingdom of God grows when we have faith in Jesus, live as Jesus

did and seek to build a more peaceful and just world.

God bless and stay courageous.
