INTERSCHOOL GIRLS SOCCER - REGIONAL FINALISTS
On Monday 22nd August, the Girls Soccer team played in the Regional finals at Casey Fields. Their first game was against Hampton Primary School. Considering only Ava and Cali play soccer, the girls played well against a team that had many soccer players. They fought hard, but lost the game 4 – 0.
The second game against Brentwood finished in a 2 -2 draw, with Tahlia and Lexie scoring the goals. With the game finishing in a draw, a penalty shoot out was required to decide the winner. Ava Jensz, our goalie, was very cool under pressure and the girls won, 3 -1.
In the last game, Hayley scored an excellent goal, but it was not enough, and the girls lost to Dandenong South, 4 -1.
Both Mrs Burt and the wonderful parent supporters were so impressed with the improved soccer skills, positional play and general understanding of the game since the girls first played in the District competition in June.
Congratulations:
5/9 - Cali McCartney
6/5 - Ali Charles, Tahlia Peel, Victoria Magock, Sunni Coates, Lexie Betinsky
6/6 - Ava Jensz, Hayley Karachiwala
6/7 - Liv Burridge, Bridie Campbell
6/8 - Indi White, Zoe Skinner, Izabella Neilson
Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who attended and supported the girls. Special thank you to Mandy Charles and Kellie Burridge, who transported extra students.
DISTRICT BASKETBALL LIGHTNING PREMIERSHIP - FRIDAY 2nd SEPTEMBER
Today, 38 Year 6 students participated in the Murdoch District Lightning Premiership held at Frankston Basketball Stadium. With seven schools making up the District (Baxter, Langwarrin, Langwarrin Park, Pearcedale, Somerville, Somerville Rise and Woodlands), 33 teams played in the tournament, with approximately 180 students in total participating on the day. There were 6 different pools to cater for the all the diverse skills of the students - All Stars Boys, All Stars Girls, Future Stars Mixed A, Future Stars Mixed B, Future Stars Mixed C, Future Stars Girls.
By all accounts, our students were excellent, displayed great sportspersonship during the games. When not playing, they loved finding out how the other teams were progressing and demonstrated a strong culture of support and encouragement. Alex Lourey said it was his idea of a dream day.
Unable to attend on the day, three fabulous teachers - Ms Milne, Ms O'Neill and Mrs McGuinness - willingly took over the final organisational details, as well as, attend to their duties on the day to ensure our students were able to participate. In addition to this, once again, a number of parents volunteered to help with coaching and scoring for the 5 teams.
A big thank you to Aaron Kelly, Jarod Burridge, Emily Coller, Erin Harrison, Sarah Nye, Kellie Burridge, Jodie Madigan, Rebecca Davis, Jessica Lourey, Sarah McNeilage, Danielle Gannon and Mel Schmidt.
