Principal's Report

By Carolyn Serpell

Many thanks to all families for their support with last week's Book Week celebrations.

We really appreciate the effort made with costumes and the support given to our Book Fair.  It was wonderful to have so many families join us for the parade, which also contributed to the excitement of the day.  A big thank you to Queen Nicole for her coordination and organisation of the book fair and parade, and to all staff for their contribution and organisation of activities which will have made many special memories.  Please refer to 'Classroom News' for a recap of the day in photos.

A reminder that tomorrow, Friday the 19th August is a pupil free day. OSHC will be running for families who require this support, but bookings are essential.  Please contact Kath on 0418399861 to book in your child.

During Book Week, students learned about the the importance of looking after our oceans.  This week, as part of Science Week, this learning was extended in the upper years, through a live webinar with Parks Victoria, which focused on Victoria's marine environment and how science can help to monitor and solve different problems.   Other science-focused activities this week included a university-led Dark Matter Science session at the Mount Beauty Library, as well as participating in experiments in the classroom.

Despite the extra wintery conditions, last week's ski day provided a great experience for students and it was great to hear how everyone made the most of the day.  Many thanks again to our staff and volunteers for their support and encouragement of students and providing them with this opportunity.  Unfortunately, due to a severe weather forecast, skiing had to be cancelled today.  A back up day has now been booked for the 1st of September. Fingers crossed, there might be some blue sky skiing yet!

Students in Years 3 & 4 will also have an opportunity to participate in a day of X-Country skiing on Tuesday 13th September.  Additional information about this event will be sent home shortly .

Each year, families are given the opportunity to participate in the Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey.  This survey is offered by the Department of Education and Training and is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. We encourage all families to participate in this survey. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.   While previously a random sample of approximately 30 per cent of parents/caregivers/guardians have been selected to participate, this year, all families are invited to participate in the survey.

The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be open until Friday 16th September and information about how to access the survey will be sent home via Compass.

The Australian Dental Health visit has been rescheduled for the first week of term 4. Families who returned their forms earlier in the year, do not need to do anything.  If you did not complete a form and would like your child to participate, please drop into the office to collect a form or give us a call.  If for any reason you wish to withdraw consent, please contact the office asap.
