Myrniong - Prep to Year 6

Year Two Assembly

I was blown away by the Year Two performance at Assembly this week. They knew their lines so well and delivered them clearly and with confidence. The expression they used as they told us the delightful story of ‘A Bad Case of Stripes’ by David Shannon was excellent. The Year Twos captivated their audience and were so well rehearsed you would have thought they had been working on their performance for months. Such a professional outfit that even had a Director. What a clever way to include every student, even when they were absent on the day. They even had us toe tapping and eager to join in as they danced and sang ‘All Shook Up’.

Poor Camilla woke up one morning covered in stripes. The doctor was called, followed by specialists and experts who poked and prodded and took notes. An environmental therapist suggested she breathe deeply and become one with her room. Nothing worked until a little old lady with some lima beans came to the rescue. Camilla loved lima beans but didn’t eat them because the kids at school didn’t like them.

A beautiful message about being yourself. Well done to Miss Brabham and the Year Two class.

Farewell to Dr Hirst

This week we farewelled Dr Hirst who has been the only Principal most of the Junior School students have had. He will leave behind, and carry with him, many memories of his time spent at Myrniong. Dr Hirst has shared numerous times how much he enjoys attending our assemblies and students have been proud to have awards presented by him and have loved joining him in his famous three cheers.  We will cherish the delightful Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and sharing our history through the 150th celebrations.  Navigating the unknown world of Covid and remote learning together, but most of all the joy he brought to those around him, always encouraging, enthusiastic and positive. A few words from Dr Hirst could change the direction of your day. He really showed us the meaning of our school values. We thank him and wish him all the best for the exciting times to come.

Hockey

Congratulations to the Tassie Devils who won the Division Four Hockey Grand Final at the weekend. It was a great team effort and lovely to be able to celebrate at the Hockey dinner on Saturday night.

Basketball

On Monday night, the girls Under 12 A and B teams played in their respective Grand Finals at HILAC. Whilst neither team came away with the win, they can hold their heads up high. They fought it out to the end, showing no signs of giving up, even when the A team went into overtime. In both games, the lead changed constantly throughout the match and could have gone either way. Whilst I know some were a little disappointed, they should be super proud of their efforts. The encouragement they showed to each other was lovely to watch.

Thank you to all coaches, team managers, umpires and parents who help our students compete in such a variety of sports. Your assistance allows us to provide these opportunities for so many students.

Chamber Singers

On Sunday afternoon, the Chamber Singers attended The Hamilton Symphony Orchestra Gala Concert as special guests. As members of the audience, they witnessed the beautiful sounds of the orchestra and the voices of the soloists before taking to the stage to perform ‘I am the Earth’. They were fantastic ambassadors for the school.

Books to Life

All Myrniong students (Piccino to Year 6) travelled to the Tim Murray Room on Monday afternoon to be entertained by Tony Bones. He introduced us to Penny, an imaginative little girl who was always ready to build inventions from whatever bits and pieces she could find.

Her room was full of fabulous creative mess. Penny was ‘an imagineer’, the title of the book, with a great imagination, repurposing everyday items around the house. So, when she took a trip to visit Grandpa’s house, she was ‘flabbergasted’.

Penny learnt about grandpa’s weird and wonderful gadgets from long ago as she imagined what she could create with them, something out of this world, of course.

We look forward to Tony’s presentations each year as he literally does bring ‘Books to Life’!

Footy Colours Day

What team do you barrack for? The last day of term is Footy Colours Days at Myrniong and we can’t wait to see the students wearing the colours proudly. We would like to thank our wonderful parents who provided us with hotdogs as an extra treat. What a fun way to end the term!

Magic of Myrniong

Anyone who has spent time at Myrniong knows just what a magical place it is to be. Myrniong has been described as friendly, welcoming, inviting and a place where you feel a sense of belonging. That is without even mentioning the beautiful surroundings. So, what better way to share this than to open our doors and invite you in and that is exactly what we are doing on the last day of term. We have a number of students from other schools joining us and experience for themselves ‘The Magic of Myrniong’ and I’m sure the students will make them feel very welcome.

Holidays

I wish all of our school community happy holidays and a well deserved break as we head into the holidays after what has been a very busy term. May you all enjoy some precious family time and hopefully some sunshine as Spring emerges.

Safe travels for those of you who are going away. If you are having a ‘staycation’ I hope you enjoy doing something you love or try something new. Whatever your holidays look like, rest and reset, ready for an exciting Term Four.

HDSA AFL 9s Competition

Wednesday afternoon saw 18 Junior School students participate in the HDSA AFL 9s competition at Pedrina Park.  Thankfully we avoided the rain to enjoy a sunny afternoon of round robin style games.  Congratulations to all members of the ‘College Magpies’ and ‘College Cats’ who demonstrated wonderful teamwork, positive sportsmanship and excellent football skills throughout the afternoon. Particular thanks to Mr Todd O’Sullivan and Mr Wal Dyer for enthusiastically coaching our two teams and Mr Frank Nicholls for supporting our student umpires Luke Pickering and Liam Bilenkij.  Thank you also to Ms Mandy Kearns for manning the timer and siren for the afternoon. It was wonderful to see so many happy participants back on the footy field!
