Year 7

These last few weeks, Year 7 students have graduated from block-based coding to text-based coding and have been learning the basics of the one of the world’s fastest growing programming languages, Python. They’ve learnt basic commands, getting the computer to say, “Hello World”, importing modules such as turtle and random, using loops, angles, colours and all about syntax. They’ve discovered that spelling, grammar and mathematics are all very important in programming! Using all these skills they’ve programmed amazing artwork using Mu.

We also have some creative and colourful examples of Scratch programming from our Yr 7 students.

Year 8

Our Year 8 students have been hard at work designing, creating and programming their games. They’ve also learnt all about commands, events, operators, loops, ‘if’ statements, controls and variables. Not to mention drawing incredible sprites (characters) and backgrounds for their games.

Many students built 3 to 4 games such as Maze games, Collide games, Hide and Seek games and ‘Flappy Bird’ style games. Below are some excellent examples of our students’ work.

Year 12 Data Analytics

It was with a sigh of relief that our Year 12 students handed in their major assessment piece for Unit 4: their Data Visualisation project. This was a massive undertaking involving selecting a research question, collecting both primary and secondary data, sorting and cleansing that data and looking for patterns/trends, creating graphs and other data visualisations from those trends and then distilling all their findings down to a glossy and eye-catching infographic.

What a great life skill to have! I think you’ll agree; the finished products are very impressive indeed!
