Return to school

Without meaning to overplay next week’s return to school, I want to offer a brief reflection on next week’s change of circumstance.

Many families are ready to drop children off and get back to what they recall as ‘normal’, while others are troubled and would rather Junior School children stay home for the near future. Both extremes are quite typical, and you need not feel pressure if your reaction is different to that of a friend or neighbour.

In such uncertain times, my thoughts turn to the wisdom of our faith tradition. Our Christian and Jewish ancestors in faith looked to the Scriptures to help them make sense of the good and the bad they experienced. The book of Psalms is a wonderful example of this. There are Psalms for joy, Psalms for mourning, Psalms for when you feel abandoned, Psalms for when you feel God is on your side, and so on. If this week is in some way challenging for you, or your children, I invite you to revisit the book of Psalms and find a prayer that suits your frame of mind. Next week, I would love to hear boys’ accounts of praying the Psalms with you, if you manage to do so.

I hope last week’s Q&A was informative and helpful. If you have any further questions before next week’s return to school, please let me know via 8705 9247 or ben.munday@spc.nsw.edu.au.

Trousers for Year 6 students

The College understands the significance for each Year 6 student as he moves from shorts to trousers to take his place in Year 7 and start his Senior School journey.

As you are aware, the College Uniform Shop is only able to offer a click-and-collect service at this time.

If you would like to order your son’s trousers before the end of this year, please refer to the Uniform Shop page where you will find a very helpful sizing guide and Uniform Shop Order Form

Alternatively, we anticipate that the Uniform Shop will be open to trade in early 2022 if you would prefer to have your son fitted for his trousers once school starts.

Junior School Mission Mass

The Mission Mass is an annual Junior School event where staff and students pause to reflect and put the needs of others at the forefront of our minds. The Mass offers an opportunity for students to develop a deeper understanding of the work of our charity partners - Catholic Mission, St Edmund’s Wahroonga, and Chetanalya.

This year, students in the Junior School will celebrate Mission Mass in their classrooms via Microsoft Teams on Friday 29 October. The Mass will also launch a two-week period of fundraising for our partners where students will seek sponsors for our ‘Selfless Silence’ initiative. During the selfless silence period on Friday 12 November, students must go about their normal school morning in a reverent and reflective manner. If you are in a position to make a financial contribution at this time, we would greatly appreciate your support. All money raised is to be brought to school on Friday 12 November. Thank you in advance for your support of our Mission Mass and fundraising efforts.

Altar Servers

Year 5 students are encouraged to begin considering applying for an Altar Server role in 2022. Each year, 10 students are chosen to be altar servers for College Masses. When we return to school, all students in Year 5 will be invited to complete a form demonstrating their interest in the role.
