Assistant Principals
Welcome back to Term 4!
We hope the recent holidays provided some opportunity for a well-deserved rest and family time for all students, staff and parents after the lockdown affected Term 3.
It was exciting to welcome back our Year 12 students onsite last week. Even though many students would not see a 3-hours, 15-minute General Achievement Test (GAT) examination as an ideal return to school, Tuesday 5th October saw nearly 300 Unit 3 & 4 students complete this in accordance with strict COVID-19 guidelines. It was a credit to all students and staff involved to see this assessment run seamlessly in accordance with the necessary COVID-19 guidelines across many different venues!
Our Year 12 teachers have enjoyed the opportunity to return to onsite learning with their classes. As the final few lessons are being taught to Year 12 classes, the focus and energy is directed towards preparing students for their upcoming VCE examinations. The Year 12 cohort are very happy to be back onsite for their final classes and are enjoying the chance to connect with their peers once again. The opportunity for students to work together and the ease in which support can be accessed is proving to be a very appreciated feature of learning in the classroom setting for both students and their teachers.
While Year 7 to 11 students remain in the current remote learning arrangements, we continue to edge closer to their return to school. We encourage students and parents to have established routines in this remote learning environment, as this will greatly support the anticipated return to school. Please refer to previous publications on Compass outlining the specific dates and days where year levels will return onsite at Ringwood Secondary College.
In Department of Education announcements earlier last week, we a pleased to confirm that the Tutor Learning Initiative (TLI) will continue in 2022. Many students and families have had the opportunity to be involved in this program throughout this year and later this term our focus will move towards the prepetition and implementing of this continued program next year.
As we continue to approach the staged return of students to school, please keep checking Compass regularly for key information. As the restrictions and current school operations guide continue to be revised, we will continue to keep you informed with all relevant updates and changes via Compass.
The upcoming Parent Student Teacher interviews for years 7 – 11 will take place online on Thursday 21st October. The Teams portal will again be the method of engaging in these important discussions. The appointment portal will be open from 3:30pm Friday 15/10 until 3:30pm Wednesday 20/10. Please note that no classes will be running for students onsite or remotely on this day of interviews (October 21st).
Finally, a massive thank you to students who have been vigilant in consistently wearing face masks at all necessary times and practising good hygiene habits. Please continue to keep up your efforts, for the health and safety of not only yourself, but our wider school community. As COVID-19 restrictions gradually ease and we are back onsite with face-to-face teaching, it will be important that our entire RSC community continues to be COVID-Safe.
