Science Update
Over lockdown many students from across Years 7-10 have participated in the Australian Innovations Science Competitions including: The Big Science Competition and The Australian Science Olympiads. These competitions are administered online to students from across Australia so our students are competing against thousands of other like minded students. Thornbury High School this year has achieved some excellent results with some of our students once again scoring in the top 50 for their year level across the country.
Results from the Big Science Competition include the following.
High Distinction
Year 7 students: Joseph Joyce , Noah Van Herk, Martin Versteegen, Caitlin Broadway, Sam Agnew
Year 9 student: Tobias Halfpenny
Distinction
Year 7 students: Yilin Chuang, Anika Menz, Oliver Normon, Isaac Adams
Year 8 students: Will Cartwright , Ollie Lee
Year 9 students: Luke Harveson, Eddie Jirovec, Caleb Peters
The results from the recent Australian Science Olympiads, which is a national competition that lasts 2 hours also had an amazing result with Oliver Downing of Year 8, being ranked in the top 50 from his year level for the second year running. Last year Oliver was also in the Top 50 year 7's from across Australia who completed the competition, and this year whilst once again being ranked in the Top 50 from across Australia, he was actually ranked even higher and in the Top 10 students from Year 8 across Australia. A fantastic effort!
The following students also voluntarily participated in this competition which is excellent to see that they are willing to participate in these Science competitions in their own time. These students were: Keziah Mukesh, Isaiah Miles, Joseph Joyce, Oliver Norman and Mandar Madhu.
