The Amazing Hollingsworth Family

Peter, Stuart, Simon and Tim Hollingsworth

Peter Hollingsworth is pictured with his three sons (l-r) Stuart, Simon & Tim

Prior to 1985 the Hollingsworth family was associated with St Patrick’s College in Launceston. However, all that changed when Peter and Geraldine Hollingsworth moved to Hobart in 1985 as Peter continued his career with the Tasmanian Government Supply & Tender Department.  Peter would soon become the Director of this division and retired from that role in 1997 after more than forty years of service to the State.

All three of their sons – Tim, Simon, and Stuart attended St Virgil’s and certainly left their mark on its story.

The parents were very supportive of the College, with Peter a member of the Interim Board from 1987-89, a member of the Board from 1990-92 and was its Chairman in 1992. They were highly active within the Parents and Friends Association and supporting the numerous sporting teams the boys participated in.

During their time at SVC three boys excelled at their studies, gained leadership positions, and threw themselves with success into the College’s sporting culture – particularly in athletics.

In telling the story of these three outstanding Old Virgilians, it would be remiss not to emphasise the amazing support of their parents and Kevin Prendergast. Peter and Geraldine were amazingly supportive of the their three boys and loved spending time with them and their families, especially the grandchildren.

Sadly Geraldine passed away in December 2012 and has not been able to witness the ongoing successes of her sons and their families and sadly she missed meeting the youngest two of her six grandchildren.

All three boys came under the influence of many people during their various athletics careers, but none more so than that of Kevin Prendergast, who gave so much to Athletics Tasmania and the Old Virgilians Athletics Club.
