Billy Elliot: The Musical

As part of their outcome, our Unit 1 and 3 Drama students recently attended a performance of the internationally acclaimed production, 'Billy Elliot: The Musical''. Set in northern England during the miners’ strike of 1984/5, the production follows Billy’s journey from boxing ring to ballet class where he discovers a passion for dance that unites his family, inspires his community and changes his life forever. Students were asked to analyse and evaluate the performance, taking into consideration the performance style, the actors expressive and performance skills and to unpack the production's themes which focused on solidarity, freedom, entrapment and gender stereotypes.

Instrumental Music

We currently have 120 students learning an instrument at Kilbreda.  All our bands, orchestras and ensembles are now up and running.

It is never too late to join a Kilbreda ensemble and you do not need to be learning at school to qualify.  All are welcome.

Please contact

Isabella.worrall@kilbreda.vic.edu.au if you would like more information about joining an orchestra or ensemble.

Music Camp 2020

Due to the current situation with COVID-19 (Coronavirus) the decision to cancel the Music Camp, planned for May 5 to 6 was made.

We will look at potentially rescheduling the Music Camp later in the year.

Physical Theatre Workshop

In Unit 1 Drama, students explore eclectic theatre conventions and different theatre performance styles. Conventions of eclectic Theatre include manipulating the actor’s body to transform time, character and place on stage, in front of an audience.

Physical theatre is a style of theatre which relies on the physicality of the actor. It conveys a narrative through movement and limited dialogue. The Physical theatre workshop, run by Beth Lane, enabled students to explore how they could use their bodies to create meaning and move from a Naturalistic theatre style to a more Eclectic style of theatre. It promoted a space for experimenting with ways to manipulate their bodies to create and transform a character and place.

The workshop challenged the girls to use their bodies in ways they had not thought of before, by considering each movement to be as if they were inside a telephone box. This meant paying attention to the top, middle and bottom, and every corner of the box and ensuring they use their bodies to illustrate this.

This Laban inspired workshop tested the students to consider every aspect of their body when using the space they were in.
