Music @ McCarthy

Term 4 brings with it both endings and new beginnings for the Band Program at McCarthy. It is time for us to say goodbye and thank you to the Year 12 Band members. Martha Smith, Brendan Scott, Lillian Harrison, Veronica Borchard, Maeve Galvin, Hannah Kampe and Tazmin Darnell have all contributed significantly to the band program during their time at McCarthy, and we appreciate all the work, effort and dedication they have shown over this time.

With the Year 12 students departing, we have appointed new Band Captains and Vice Captains for 2022. The Captains are Katie Ringland and Joseph Melville; and the Vice Captains are Marianne Flood and Wilson Cowley. Congratulations to these students and we look forward to working with you as you develop your music and leadership skills over the coming year.

During Term 3, we had four ensembles enter recordings in the Queensland Catholic Schools and Colleges Music Festival. In previous years the band has travelled to Brisbane and participated in this festival, however this year we had to send in recordings. It was wonderful to be able to see all of the different performances during the festival over their YouTube channel. We are very happy with the results of our ensembles. The Brass Ensemble received a Silver Award for their performance, with the Concert Band, Jazz Band and Woodwind Ensemble all receiving Bronze Awards for their performances. Congratulations to all of our students.

Due to the current COVID restrictions, we are still unable to have any band or ensemble rehearsals. Please continue to practise your instrument at home, and we look forward to having rehearsals again as soon as we can.
