Supporting your teen in an ever-changing Covid world
I recently came across an article about supporting teen mental health as Covid restrictions are eased, which I expect families in our school community may find beneficial:
Headlines about the impact of the pandemic on youth mental health have left many parents worried about their children and unsure what they can do to help.
Now, as restrictions are eased – and school, home and social lives return to something resembling normal – young people are having to make significant adjustments as they face new pressures.
Parents need clear, evidence-based, practical strategies to support their teen’s mental health. Nine key tips:
1. parents, look after yourselves!
2. keep the conversation open;
3. support teens to follow the local rules and regulations;
4. accept your teen's emotions;
5. help work out what can and can't be controlled;
6. provide support as needed;
7. establish routines;
8. adjust expectations;
9. look for silver linings.

Consent Education Survey
Survey closing soon! Parent and carer survey on consent education A reminder that the parent and carer survey on consent education is still open, and will close on 15 December 2021. This anonymous survey is available in 10 languages other than English and will take less than 10 minutes to complete.
It will help the NSW Department of Education plan how it can best support consent education in school communities: including supporting parents and carers to talk about consent with their children and young people at home.
This is your last chance to complete the survey and have your say.
Parents and carers of NSW Public School students of all ages, from all communities, are encouraged to participate in the survey. The results will be shared on NSW Department of Education website later this year.
