Write a Book in a Day

This term the English Learning Area was proud to promote and organise the national competition, Write a Book in a Day. The competition is a fundraising event for The Kids’ Cancer Project who donate the winning entries to children’s hospitals. On the day, three teams of students, from a variety of year levels, worked hard to plan, write and illustrate a short story.

Each team were given a set of parameters detailing some unique characters to include and every team had to incorporate a list of particular words into their story. This led to original concepts, such as Shark Disco. The range of students’ ideas and their level of creativity was incredible; we certainly have a lot of talented students, both in terms of writing and illustrating. It was also a fantastic opportunity for them to work collaboratively and further develop valuable teamwork skills.

As the day wore on the work rate increased in order to meet the deadline. Overall the students said it was a tiring but rewarding experience and they are looking forward to participating again next year.
