HAPE

Health and PE

All of our students have been busy immersing themselves in everything Health and PE this term.

Year 7 students have been exploring puberty in Health by creating their own board game to help the learning of their peers. In PE, they have been participating in different games that involve large ball skill and annotating what skills are involved in their chosen sport.

Year 8 students have been further understanding the strategies and tactics involved in Net/Wall sports, by exploring hitting techniques in badminton, table tennis, volleyball and bat tennis. In Health, the focus has been on our Sex! Life! unit, with students presenting their chosen topic to the rest of the class to help the learning of their peers.

Peer teaching has also been the focus in Year 9 PE, with students in groups presenting an invasion game to the rest of the class. In their double periods, the students have been travelling to Richmond Recreation Centre to partake in Life Saving sessions, where they are learning valuable water-based life skills. A group of students spent a day at the pool at the end of Term 3 completing their accredited Bronze Medallion qualification.

Year 10 students have been busy travelling around the neighbourhood participating in recreational based activities that promote participation in physical activity to remain fit and healthy. Some of these include: archery, Bounce, Clip’n’Climb and Golf.

Congratulations to Nicole Dimopoulos and Denis Kyriakos who have won the Jill Wright Cup for 2016 for being adjudged the fittest male and female in the Year 12 PE class. The class conducted a battery of fitness tests to measure their fitness levels across a range of fitness components. The cup is named after Jill Wright, a former Kew High School teacher who made a lasting and meaningful contribution to the PE department. The award is a prestigious one and Nicole and Denis should be congratulated!

Onwards to Term 4!
