Goodbye 2021!

Welcome to the 7th Edition of the Ivy Voice!

It is a pleasure to present a short edition that marks the end of 2021, another year filled with uncertainty, yet overcome by the perseverance, courage and determination of Ivanhoe students. As we reach the end of the school year, it is important to reflect on the successes that ultimately shaped who we are as learners and members of the school community.

We began the year thinking we would have normality. Under the leadership of School Captains Frank Bevacqua, Bella Saka, Lexie Wooller, Harrison Matsamakis and the Prefects, we felt inspired to begin 2021.

Then we saw the transition to online learning. We were thrown back into the world of Microsoft TEAMS, attending all our classes from a screen and missing the interaction between our peers and teachers. Yet, we still managed to overcome these challenges. We participated in online recitals, watched online assemblies, saw our friends as restrictions eased and eventually, returned back to face to face learning.

Throughout the year, we were still able to experience some key co-curricular events, including the Annual Cadet Camp, house swimming and athletics carnivals, various music and performing arts concerts, debating, service opportunities and even Year 10 Camp. We trained and competed in our various sports on Saturdays earlier in the year and found other ways to include our parents in school events when they couldn’t be on campus. The Year 12s especially, have been our biggest inspiration this year, completing exams in the most trying circumstances, giving us hope that the future will be relatively normal.

As the Chief Editor of the Ivy Voice, I would like to welcome Dean Fiume, Philomena Spicer, Victoria Sze and Denzel Vaghani who will be joining the Ivy Voice team as new Editors. In the next editions, they will learn the ropes of editing and be instrumental in creating the Ivy Voice each term.

Finally, we thank the teachers and parents who have helped students get through this year! We are beyond grateful for the support we have received academically, socially and emotionally and cannot wait for 2022.

We are looking forward to 2022, filled with new opportunities and the ability to compose and share the new editions of the Ivy Voice with everyone!
