Primary News

Mr Liam Beatty

Dear Primary Families,

It has been another exciting week in the Primary School at MCA. The students have been actively engaged in their learning as well as a number of activities outside of the classroom. As we begin Week 6, please find some important updates below.

Primary High-Achievers Morning Tea

Last Thursday we held our first Primary High-Achievers morning tea to acknowledge Year 5 and 6 students who achieved outstanding results on their Term 3 reports. It was a great event for the boys to come together as a group to celebrate their individual success. During the morning I reminded the boys of the importance of continuing to aim high and set ambitus goals for themselves.

Year 5 Leadership Morning

Last week over fifty Year 5 students took part in a Leadership Formation morning. As part of this process, the boys reflected on their understanding of leadership and found out more about the formal leadership roles in the Primary School in 2022. During the session, we reiterated the fact that, even though not everyone will be successful in their application for the Primary Student Leader positions, we are expecting all boys in Year 6 2022 to be great leaders. My congratulations to all the boys who participated and thanks to Mrs Mena McLean (Campus Minister) and Mr Michael Connolly (Primary Pastoral Leader) for facilitating the session.

Year 6 Beach Day

A reminder that our Year 6 Beach Day to Caloundra will take place on Wednesday 24 November. Please access the Parent Lounge to confirm your son’s permission and attendance on the day if you have not done so already.

We are also looking for a number of parent volunteers to assist with the supervision of the students during the day, particularly on the beach. If you would like to volunteer, please email your son’s classroom teacher and Mr Michael Connolly directly by Tuesday 16 November.

Primary Final Assembly

Our final Primary Assembly for 2021 will take place in the Draney Theatre on Thursday 25 November. This is an opportunity for us to celebrate our year together and farewell our Year 6 students from the Primary School. A special invitation has been emailed to all Year 6 families, please RSVP via the link by Monday 15 November to book your seat.

New Hat Orders

This afternoon you would have received an e-mail from Mr Bruce McPhee (Deputy Head of College) regarding the ordering process for the new hats for our current Year 6 students. As a College, we would like to try and make this process a little easier for you by having your son’s classroom teacher oversee the trying on of hats.  During this time, they will assist your son in finding the best-sized hat for them. If you would prefer to be present when your son tries on a hat, please don’t hesitate to visit the Uniform Shop and do a try on during usual Uniform Shop opening hours which can be found on the College App.

Year 5 Concert

I look forward to joining our Year 5 families to watch the Music Concert in the Draney Theatre on Thursday evening. A big thank you to Dr Andrew Butt (Head of Music) and his staff for all their hard work in putting together this wonderful evening.

From the Primary Pastoral Leader – Michael Connolly

Haircuts

A reminder that boys are not permitted to have hair that, when brushed forward, covers their eyes. Quite a few boys have told me that they wish to grow their hair over the holidays, which is fine. I have reminded them that, for the next three weeks though, they will need to make sure that their fringe is cut short enough so as to not be in their eyes when brushed forward. If your son comes home with a request to get a haircut at his earliest convenience, your assistance with this request is very much appreciated.

Student Leadership

I would like to thank all the Year 5 students who have attended our 2022 Student Leadership sessions to date.  By the time you read this piece in the newsletter, the boys who are keen to proceed in the leadership process will have submitted their letter of application to Mr Beatty.  I would like to congratulate all these boys for getting this done during this very busy period.

Green Thumbs Pizza

On Wednesday afternoon from 3:15pm – 4:15pm, members of our Green Thumbs gardening group will use some of the fruits of their labours to make pizzas in the Trade Training Pizza Ovens. These boys have worked tirelessly in the gardens with Mrs Rhonda Carson and deserve their time to enjoy some ‘self-cooked’ pizzas at the end of a busy year.

Year 6 BBQ

Our Year 6 boys and teachers shared a BBQ breakfast with each other this morning. It was a great opportunity for the boys to mix across classes in a social setting and gave us a chance to address the cohort as a whole to give them some important messages about finishing the year off strongly and taking care of each other until the very end of the year.
