Peer Coaching in Physical Education

During the last few weeks back at school, MLA and SLA students collaborated and designed some wonderful coaching and learning games for younger students in Prep and JLA.

This was a wonderful way to give back to the school community, be able to spend time with some of our school in a COVID safe way, and allow students to be the center of their learning.  It was also a great way for students in both the older and younger grades to show and develop the understanding of what a skills is, and how a skill is required for all walks of life, and not just sport.  This was a great way to develop our understanding of Physical Literacy: as Physical Education is not just about sport, but developing the whole person to know what to do with Physical Activity and how to use it in their whole life.

Thank you to MLA and SLA for their wonderful lesson creations and leadership – I appreciate your efforts and work, and so did the JLA and Prep students who all said that they enjoyed your lessons very much, and how great it was to have someone different teaching them some new skills, but also revising the ones they already knew!

JLA BIKE ED

JLA students participated in Bike Ed during their final lesson of PE this week.  They were taught valuable safety checks to do before you ride your bike by cycling coach Vanessa Bof.

“You need to check that your helmet is fitted correctly before riding, as well as check your tyres are pumped up enough, and that you seat is at the right height” – Giovanni, JLA2.

“We also learned how to check our pedals and chain were in good working order as well “ – Lachlan, JLA1.

While most students knew how to ride without training wheels, some students were lucky enough to come away with a new found confidence to ride without them, or at least have the skills to continue practicing over the holidays!

“We had wicked fun today – I was looking forward today and it was worth it!” – Grace, JLA3.

Thank you to Vanessa for her time to teach our students how to ride their bikes safely and correctly!  We really appreciate your valuable knowledge and coaching!
