Technology

Hi Everyone!
We are back and we are working hard onsite! This term our students are completing units in Design and Digital Technologies!
Check out what we are doing...
Preps:
Food, food, food!! We have been learning about healthy and unhealthy foods, as well as tools and equipment that we use in the kitchen. Now that we are back on site, students are following The Engineering Design Process to design a brand new set of cutlery, that they can use to pick up a new food that they have been designing in their classroom. In the next few weeks students will have the chance to build a mini prototype of their design, where they will take photos and make comments on their achievements.
Grade 1s+2s:
This term we are focusing on coding! Students are very familiar with the word algorithm, where they are beginning to explain what an algorithm is and how we use and create algorithms in everyday life.
Last week students created a dance algorithm, where they were encouraged to take on the challenge of using 'repeat' loops! Repeat loops make parts of an algorithm repeat more than once.
We look forward to coding and creating algorithms with robotics in the coming weeks!
Grade 3s +4s:
Let's put on our engineering hats!
This term our students have been researching famous inventors and have chosen an invention that they would like to engineer improvements for!
Students are following The Engineering Design Process to come up with new and improved futuristic designs for a current design. i.e. plane or remote control - how would it look in the future? What materials could it be made from?
We look forward to seeing the students creativity!
Grade 5s+6s:
3D designing is our focus this term!! Students are undertaking a challenge, where they have been presented with a design brief. Students need to design a new playground for Oatlands, that considers all needs i.e. disabilities etc.
They are following The Engineering Design Process to design, sketch, create a 3D prototype and give and receive feedback from peers, to make improvements.
We look forward to seeing the 3D prototypes, that students will create on the Tinkercad Program in the coming weeks!
We love promoting creativity and problem solving and we look forward to working with the students for the rest of Term 4!
Many thanks,
The Tech Team
