From the Principal

Dear Killara Families,

It is my honour to serve our learning community as Killara High School’s new Principal.

I know that together we will strive towards being the best school for every student in all areas of school operations, and our school’s dedication towards continual improvement will remain energised by our collective passion for education, supporting young people and celebrating student success.

I know that we will strive to ensure that all students experience access, choice and challenge within a broad curriculum, and that KHS continues to be ambitious, with high expectations and consolidates its tradition of academic, sporting and leadership excellence. We will work towards strengthening our wellbeing initiatives, to allow students to grow, succeed and thrive.

I’m a strong believer in getting the little things right. It’s the little things that make a big difference for students, staff and families. My vision for the school is simple, and it is to ensure that we continue to enhance the learning experiences for every student, so that they can make a positive contribution to our society.

The education we provide at Killara High School will be defined by the character of the young people who graduate from our school. Through our educational programs, we will aim to develop active citizens who are empathetic, resilient, caring and have the self-belief that they can make a positive contribution to the world.

Learning environment improvements

We have significant improvement projects taking place across the school commencing later this term. Our D and E block student toilet blocks will be renovated. This work is due to commence towards the end of December 2021.

Our school will undergo roofing upgrades across A, B, C, D and E blocks, including the Kerrabee Centre. This work will commence later this term. Furthermore, we will see 13 locations around the school with new ceilings and LED lights being installed.

These projects will make a significant difference to our students’ learning experiences.

Annual Awards Ceremony

We will hold our Annual Awards Ceremony on February 7, 2022 at 6pm in the Kerrabee Hall.  Student achievement will be recognised during Stage assemblies, and the formal presentation of awards will take place on February 7. Invitations for our Annual Awards Ceremony are being delivered this term.

HSC

The HSC examination experience has reached a stage where we have many students who have now finished. I would like to congratulate all Year 12 students for their commitment to their studies and care for their school. Year 12 students of 2021 have maintained their commitment to their secondary studies through challenging times, unlike any cohort before them. Year 12 teachers have supported their students through many online lessons and face-to-face revision sessions, and I am appreciative of this support provided by our teaching staff.

Parent and carers survey on consent education now open

In response to the voices of young people, the heads of the three education sectors signed a Statement of Intent. In this Statement, the NSW Department of Education committed to a number of actions – including partnering with parents and carers to improve consent education.

There is now an opportunity for parents and carers to have their say by completing ashort survey. The survey will close on 15 December 2021.  This is an anonymous survey and it will help the NSW Department of Education to understand the kinds of resources parents and carers would find helpful in having important conversations about consent with their children – so that we can continue to work together to make sure every student has the knowledge and skills they need to form respectful relationships.

Kindest regards

Robin Chand
