SSV Senior Girls Table Tennis : State Runners Up

In 2022, our intermediate girls table tennis team won through EMR to compete at the state finals.

Fast forward to 2023 … Our intermediate girls’ team is now the senior girls team. It’s Monday August 7 … Period 1 the SSV state draw is complete and we have to wait until 2024 to continue our table tennis journey.

Four hours later … Period 5 … I get a phone call from Mr Selimovic and a team has pulled out and Brentwood is gifted an invitation to compete at the state finals!!! I send a quick message to the team during class (sorry to their teachers) and the team is overjoyed and internally shouting with happiness!

Last year, another intermediate second placed EMR team was also gifted a chance to compete at the state finals, a team Brentwood had defeated. That team won the state championships.

So Wednesday August 9, we travelled to MSAC in Albert Park to compete at School Sport Victoria State Championships!

Match 1 Brentwood defeats Yarrawonga P-12 (5-1)

Match 2 Brentwood defeats Gilson College (5-1)

Match 3 Brentwood defeats Nossal High School (3-3. 13-11)

Brentwood wins Pool A!!

Our girls now play Pool B’s second placed team in the cross over semi finals.

Match 4 Brentwood defeats Suzanne Cory (5-1) and have now made it to the SSV state final!

SSV State Finals

Our girls are so pumped. They have gone one step further this year and will come home with the goodies; they are happy with either red or blue. Just remember we had been gifted an invitation (after being Runners Up at EMR) to compete at the state finals and the girls won through to the state final! This is the most enjoyable match of the day. They had formed new friendships throughout the day and the state final was a rematch of the EMR final. Although this time Brentwood wins more points than the last time they played Ringwood SC.

Match 5 Brentwood is defeated by Ringwood 1-5

Super proud of your commitment to each other. Your endless support, dedication to training sessions, and your outstanding sportsmanship throughout the entire journey was exemplary.

Third in 2022. Runners Up in 2023. What’s next in 2024? No pressure! 😉 Just keep playing and enjoying sport.

I have been so happy to support this team on their journey. Brentwood is really proud of your efforts! Amazing!

Thank you also to Ms Green who came along to support our magnificent team.

State Cross Country Finals

Earlier this term four of our talented students competed at the 2023 SSV State Cross Country Finals at the Yarra Valley Racecourse. They qualified for the state event curtesy of placing in the top 15 at the EMR event held in term 2. On a wonderfully sunny afternoon each of the students ran extremely well and represented the college beautifully.

The results reflect these student's natural abilities and commitment to their training. In the 16 year old girls event Cassie Weir placed 56th and Michiko Versluis placed 73rd. Later in the afternoon Thomas Jackson placed placed 29th in the 16 years boys event and Jordan Gilbert placed 63rd in the 17-20 years boys event.

Congratulations to all of these students on successfully making it through all stages of the cross country competition. You should all be extremely proud of making the state finals and our school community looks forward to seeing what results you can achieve next year.
