Gospel Reading:  Matthew 17:1-9 The Transfiguration

This week's Sunday Gospel was shared at our Year 1 Family Mass on Sunday and included the miracle of when Jesus appeared in his full glory to two of his disciples, when he brought them up the mountain. Jesus appearance was so bright and vibrant that the disciples felt fear. They saw images Moses and Elijah then heard the voice of God saying, "This is my son, Listen to Him." Indeed the signs were promisng that goodness was to come from Jesus' suffering but the reward is entry into the Glory of heaven.  We often refer to the word GLORY, but what does it mean to us? What does it look like to us?  When are we more likely to use this term Glory when we describe every day events in our lives?

What happened in this scripture explains the Glory of Jesus which affirms the power of God and his plans for us all.  How fortunate were his disciples to have this comfort and to witness the affirmation of God's true Glory prevailing.

Can we find God's glory in our lives and I wonder what it would look like?

Year 1 Level Mass on Sunday August 6th

Many thanks to our Year 1/2 team who came together to be a part of our Community mass this Sunday. Grace, Brandon, Elisea, Aiden, Ashley, Harrison, Evan and Nicholas were all very brave and read beautifully in front of our congregation. Many other students, staff, parents attended as well and it is always lovely to see many familiar faces. It is sometimes tricky for our parents to come to mass when there are sporting commitments over the weekend as well, but it is worth the time spent together when we do.

Kidsview - Social Justice excursion to St. Luke's Primary School

Today our social justice leaders, as well as some other selected students, were involved in some workshops which helped them to grow in their understanding about social justice is. They were given facts and views about the difficulties endured by the poor in our heavily populated world, including an imbalance of resources and basic needs. Most of the emphasis was on the Philippines and the students took on new identities for the day to help immerse them into challenges around poverty and racism, limited education, lack of safe shelter and health care. Our students were reminded that our youth can make a difference if they have concern for others. Our youth are the change makers for the future, which is the motto of this organisation, Bahay Tuluyan.

Four main words in the Philippines were shared to help us remember the key lessons for the day:

  • Dakarte -  Be creative
  • Tiis - keep going when it seems like there is nothing else
  • Tigaya - be determined
  • Maladakit - have concern for others

Congratulations to Monique, Madie, Lucas, Ava, Liam, Lachlan, Kimberley, Jackson, Sheridan and Mahyeshaa for representing St John's at the Kidsview Conference. They will be receiving certificates at assembly next week.
