A Message from

Hannah & Keir

We would like to acknowledge and honour the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the land on which our school stands. We pay our respects to all First Nations elders, past present, and emerging.

Student-Led Conferences Coming Up

In week six on Tuesday 15th August, we will be running our mid year student-led conferences. These conferences will be running online, and families will be able to make appointments for a conference through Sentral early next week. Student led conferences will take place between 11am and 7pm. Students are not required to attend school on this day, but are required to attend and participate in the conference. OSHC will be available for families who require the service, and students enrolled in OSHC will be able to attend their conference from an OSHC device.

Student-Led conferences are a very important component of our assessment and feedback cycle across the year. They are a great opportunity for students to share their perspectives on the progress that their learning has made this year, and what goals they might be working on as we move through the rest of the year. Teachers and students will do some planning work in class to get ready for conferences, and students will guide the conversation around these parameters. Depending on the year level of the student, different prompts and structures will be applied, with the focus being on ‘student voice’ for all year levels.

Students and teachers will use Seesaw as a prompt to support the information that they share, and this is where families will have access to student learning samples.

Running the student-led conferences online means that we are able to make them more accessible to the huge variety of family and working arrangements that exist in our community, and when we run these conferences online, we have a much higher participation rate than when we run these face to face.

If you have any questions about the upcoming student-led conferences, we encourage you to communicate with your class teacher through Sentral. Once conferences have passed, we will review their success and consider any recommended changes at our  Education Sub-Committee meeting. These suggestions can then make their way through to school leadership and the school council.

Calling All Enrolments

Applications to enroll at Brunswick North West Primary School in 2024 are closing soon; all applications to enroll must be submitted by the end of July. Enrollment numbers are used when planning class structures and teacher teams for 2024, and the more accurate information that we have when making these decisions means that our plans can be accurate.
