Middle School at BHCS in 2015

Middle School
We are excited to announce that as of next year the structure of the school will be changing from Primary and Secondary to Junior (Prep-Year 4), Middle (Year 5-8) and Senior (Year 9-12) sub-schools. The introduction of a Middle School brings some exciting possibilities and opportunities to the students.
Why Middle School?
Middle School caters for the transitional years of a child's life. Children during the ages of
10-14 face a huge number of changes (social, mental and physical) as they navigate their way through adolescence, from being a child to a young adult. The jump from Year 6 to Year 7 can be quite large for some students.
While changing the structure of the school seems like a massive change, much of what currently happens in Year 5-8 will be remaining the same in terms of curriculum content and delivery. Within Middle School there is the introduction of variety of subjects that open students up to the possibilities.
Middle School will be an environment for students to be themselves, to develop and grow as young adolescents. It will be a place where they feel appreciated for who they are, and encouraged along the way. A smaller cohort of Year 5-8 gives students a sense of identity and belonging.
Location of Middle School
A Year 7/8 Centre is currently being built under the Gym. The concrete slab for this facility has been poured this week, as well as some internal framing being put in place. This will be an innovative and flexible space, with the ability for it to be individual classrooms or opened up for more collaborate learning. This will be ready for the start of next year.
Year 5/6 classrooms will be located near the 7/8 Centre next to the Gym and will be ready part way into the year.
A designated Middle School play area (in between the Gym and Secondary Courts) has begun to be landscaped.
More Information?
There will be a Middle School Information Night on Thursday 20th November. This will be mainly aimed at current Year 4 and 5 parents, as there is a Year 7 Information Night a week later. More information about these two events will follow shortly.
