Art

Term 3

This term students in Prep and JLC have been developing their drawing skills and creating a multimedia seascape featuring a guided drawing of a sea turtle. Students used a paint wash with cool colours to create an underwater background and used intricate cutting skills to create kelp and seaweed. Oil pastel was used to colour the turtle and give it the beautiful patterns seen on their shell. Some students were even able to glue on some sand to their artwork, adding another medium and texture.

Year 3-6 students have been introduced to a form of printmaking called collagraphy. Collagraphy is the process of making a printing plate using recycled materials and scraps such as cardboard, felt, pasta, icy-pole sticks, match sticks, straws, cotton wool etc. and arranging them to form an image or design. This design is then glued to the plate (a piece of cardboard), painted with printing ink or paint and a print is taken by placing a piece of paper on top, pressed firmly and lifted to reveal the print. Students have been working through this process by designing, sketching and selecting and arranging their materials.
