Principal Team's Report

'Creating Futures Together'

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Term 3 2023! We have had a seamless start to Semester Two and I believe everyone is now well and truly back into the school routine after the Term 2 break.

Staffing News

We would like to warmly welcome the following staff to our College in Term 3:

  • Judith Walsh who has commenced as our new Business Manager
  • Andrew Steel who has commenced as one of our Maths Educators
  • Sara Abdat who has commenced as one of our Maths Educators

We have also secured a new English Educator who will be commencing on the 31st July. We will provide a formal welcome for her in the next newsletter.

College Events

The first week back has been very busy with the State Schools Victoria Cross Country taking place where Jasmine Hamilton was placed 47th in the 20-year old’s 3000m. We are so proud of Jasmine and her achievement!

The SpongeBob production practice continues to feature heavily this term with all cast and crew attending a production camp last weekend. Thank you to all the staff and students for attending this event and we all look forward to seeing the final product! Members of our community are encouraged to purchase tickets to this event as this is a wonderful platform for our students to showcase their talents!

Uniform

In response to student feedback, our uniform supplier, Lowes, will be stocking a College Beanie in the next few weeks. It is blue with the College emblem. It will retail for around $17.95. We would like students to wear these rather than other beanie varieties when attending school.

Students are also reminded that they may only wear the sports uniform to and from school on the days that they have sport.

Health and Wellbeing

There has been a lot of focus in the media in recent times about the prevalence and dangers of vaping. Our young people are to be reminded about the dangers of smoking and vaping and the impact this can have on their health. We also remind everyone that smoking and vaping are banned at school and whilst travelling to and from school. We have had reports of vaping occurring on the school bus and remind students that they could be subject to fines via PTV if found to be vaping whilst travelling on the bus.

Cold and flu season is now upon us and according to health professionals, extends through to September. Members of the community are advised to remain home if they are unwell. At the present time, influenza A and B, RSV and COVID are circulating in the community. Please refer to the link attached outlining tips for treating the flu.

Subject Selection for 2024

Moving forward from the work completed in Term 2, we are now in the process of commencing preparations for 2024 in terms of finalising student subject selections for Years 10 to 12. All students by now should have lodged their subject requests. If you have not selected your subjects, please see a member of the sub-school as soon as possible as subject allocations will be commencing in the next week. We aim to advise students of their subjects for 2024 by the end of Term 3 at the latest.

Staff Leave

As a reminder, please be advised of the following staff leave for Term 3:

Andrew Dixon (Assistant Principal) is on leave for semester 2 and is replaced by Jeremy Woods as Acting Assistant Principal.

Jeremy Woods is being replaced by Ben Shepherd as Leader of Middle School for Semester 2.

Fern Brisbane (College Principal) is on Long Service Leave until July 28th and is replaced by myself, Judy Anderson as Acting Principal during this time.

We wish everyone a productive and enjoyable Term 3 and look forward to seeing our students embrace their learning and the extracurricular opportunities afforded to them. We have a devoted group of staff at WHSC who are committed to ensuring the very best learning outcomes for each and every child under our care.
