Junior Art
The Prep students are still making artworks based on the use of their powerful imaginations, such as drawing their own depictions of the Gruffalo as described in the well known book. For the 1-2’s they have been working on observation and learning the difference between seeing and really looking at an object in order to draw it more successfully. Last week students went outside to find a particular item, such as a leaf or a stick, and drew it in as much detail as they could. This week we explored the notion of “ish” drawings (from the book of the same name by Peter Reynolds) and students drew a “vase-ish” drawing of a still life set-up in the art room.
Senior Art
We are currently exploring new tools and techniques in the Art room. The grade 5 and 6 students are focused on artist Otis Hope Carey, using his work as inspiration to incorporate line in their screen-printed artworks. Students in grade 3 and 4 have just started a new project inspired by artist Brendan Huntley and his unique butterfly paintings.
