Whole School - Class Libraries

We would like to say a HUGE thank you to our amazing P&F for the fantastic tubs that were purchased for our class libraries! The students led the organisation and decided what categories to create. Then a big sort out took place and now the students can easily find books that they would like to read!

We really appreciate all your hard work fundraising for OPS!

Foundation

The Foundation students celebrated 100 days of Prep today!  We created colourful crowns, paraded around different classrooms, built 100 different types of things, and enjoyed lots of singing and dancing.

We are so proud of all of Foundation students and hope they enjoyed the festivities us much as Miss D and Mrs McIntosh did.

Year 1

Our Year One class libraries are looking great! The students helped to sort our books into categories and made colourful labels for our new tubs. They are enjoying being able to independently and easily find books that interest them. Thanks to our Parents and Friends for the tubs!

Year 2

On Monday, our Year 2 students went on an excursion to CERES Community Environment Park to explore how we can farm for our future. The students discovered where food comes from and how farming can impact our community and environment.

Here are their takeaways:

  • Many years ago CERES was a place that was dug up for it’s bluestone, then it became a landfill. Forty years ago a few teachers asked to turn it into a garden. Bonnie
  • We got to hold the earth worms. Seb & Owen
  • Earthworms help the soil become rich. Ryan
  • There were chickens that lay eggs that are sold at CERES. Raff & Frankie
  • We fed the chickens, we could feed them by hand or place pallets on our feet. Suyin
  • Most of the chickens were hens. Ralph
  • When we fed the chickens, they pecked Ms Liarakos’ jacket. Eric
  • We were given some seeds and we had to guess them. Pierce
  • We made our own newspaper pot plants and planted silver beet or radishes. Alice X
  • The playground was made out of reused items such as wood and tyres. Alice S
  • We were given a spoon each to do a soil search for insects such as worms millipede. Elsie & Nathan
  • We explored the urban farm and had a treasure hunt looking for different types of vegetables. Ivana & Kassia
  • I learned that worms have five hearts and won't eat citrus peels in a compost- Zara
  • We planted silver beet and radish seeds using soil and paper pots made out of newspaper. Oliver
  • We went on a treasure hunt to find fruit trees, winter plants, summer plants, minibeasts, flowers, pollinators and pests in the farm. Jess
  • I learned that mealworms have more than two eyes. Eason
  • We fed the chickens by putting our hands out together, so they could peck the food from them. Adelina

Royal Cranbourne Botanical Gardens - Science Excursion

Yesterday we had a great day looking for worms, pond life and insects at the Cranbourne Botanical Gardens. We even dried our hands on a Lemon Myrtle bush.

We found shrimps, yabby claws and water lice in the pond. After lunch we went on a walk and found an amazing natural playground.

Year 5 News

Year 5 students had an exciting, and big day, at the House Athletics competition last Tuesday.

We were proud of them all for participating in the spirit of the event, giving the 100m, 200m, discus, shot put, high jump and long jump their best effort.

Congratulations to Alex, Daniel C, Rainn, Adrian, Flynn, Ryder, Eden, Sophie A, Sophie P and You, for getting through to the 100m Championship race.

Mr Pannam will be organising and training the Ormond District team, which will also include the top 3 from the field events.

Lots of laughs and enthusiasm made for a great day!

Whole School: Book Week Parade

This year the Book Week theme is Read, Grow, Inspire. The Book Week Parade will take place on Thursday 24th August at 9:15 am.

We would like students to choose a character from a favourite book and then dress up as that character. On the day, we'd like them to bring the book along to share with classmates.

We discourage students from wearing their AFL/Sports kits as there will be an opportunity to celebrate their favourite footy team at a later date. Year 5 and Year 6 students are going to vote on a theme for their costumes in the coming week.

We thank you in advance for your support with costumes.
