Fogarty Scholarship Applications Open

The Fogarty Scholarships are awarded to students who apply to UWA who demonstrate outstanding academic and extra-curricular achievements. 

 

The scholarship delivers financial support but the academic extension and networking that the scholarship delivers will ensure lasting support for “Fogarty Scholars”. 

 

Applications close on 23 May.

7-9 April Murdoch Campus Day Out for Year 1O, 11 and 12s School Holiday Program

Murdoch is hosting three specialist days from 7 – 9 April so that year 12s can visit the campus, meet experts, chat to current students and explore the facilities.

Veterinary Science and Agriculture

If you care about animals and the environment, a career in veterinary or animal science will see you improving the health, welfare and nutrition of animals. Or, you could pursue a career in sustainable agriculture or policing food security breaches to help feed the world.

In this stream, hear about the courses on offer, take a safari bus tour to Australia’s only farm based on a university metropolitan campus and take a class in the one-of-a-kind Veterinary Anatomy Museum featuring taxidermy specimens and body systems.

Engineering and Environment

If you like to investigate and solve problems, you’ll be able to see how we address the

environmental challenges arising from how and where we choose to live.

 

In this stream, hear about the courses on offer, take a tour of our very own Engineers playground - the Bayer Pilot Plant and take a walk in the wetlands to see the true benefits of studying on a truly biodiverse campus.

Health

If you want to help others, join us to about our evidence-based healthcare degrees. We encourage our students to re-think the way society approaches global health challenges. In this stream, hear about our courses on offer, take a tour of our $4M Sports and Exercise Science facilities and get hands-on in one of three activities in Nursing, Chiropractic Science or Biomedical Science.

Technology

If you are great with technology join an industry that’s making revolutionary ideas happen. With a degree in technology, you could be fighting cybercrime, using data analytics to drive decision making, or building new systems, apps and games.

In this stream, hear about courses on offer, get competitive in our Esports Gaming Hub - the first of its kind on a university campus in WA and tour our state-of-the-art IT Innovation Hub.

For those of you who read the news before your socials, love the idea of inspiring others for a job every day and who have the bug to travel and learn a language, this stream is for you.

 

In this stream, hear about courses on offer, get your dancing shoes on and learn the

traditional Indonesian dance of Saman and tour Australia’s first virtual classroom, SimLabTM.

Creative Media and Communications

If you’re a creative person who wants to hone your craft to tell powerful stories shining the spotlight on big issues, then a career in creative media or communications might be for you. Our community of free-thinking creatives work for Hollywood production companies, freelance as successful writers, drive global communication campaigns and help improve lives by creating online games for vision-impaired people.

 

In this stream, hear about courses on offer, tour our state-of-the-art Media Arts Centre complete with radio station, television studio and sound stage and get hands on making game mods on your favourite childhood fairy tales.

14 April Notre Dame Medicine Information Session

Medicine is available at Notre Dame for students who already have a degree. Last year Notre Dame held their Medicine Information Session online and it was excellent. They are doing the same again this year.

If you register for this online information session the first year you would be able to apply would be 2025.

UWA Enrolments Open for 2022

Year 12s can apply directly to UWA based on their Year 11 or Year 12 results but there is no rush. Applications are open until ATAR results are released. 

 

UWA found that less than 1% of those students who were given early offers for 2021 failed to complete their ATAR. This year they require students to complete their WACE with their ATAR.

 

To be considered for an early offer, student’s year 11 results must be at least 3 points higher than the stated cut off points. If a student’s year 11 ATAR doesn’t meet this standard, their final year 12 ATAR must meet the requirement.

 

Applicants must finish their WACE with ATAR. Students are required to demonstrate competence in English to be offered a place.

Prerequisites

Students wishing to be considered for courses that have pre-requisites, can consider doing bridging courses at the start of uni.

 

NOT Available for Early Offers

 

Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Podiatry and Optometry are not available for early offers.

If you enrol at UWA with an ATAR of 99.5 you automatically get the Lawrence scholarship.

 

New UWA 4 Year Bachelor of Engineering (Honours). This 4 year Bachelor of Engineering is new.

 

While there are pre-requisites for this course, UWA is keen to let applicants know about bridging programs that will help you to meet the entry requirements.

Bachelor of Arts (Architecture)

In this three-year degree, students explore sustainability, housing affordability, ageing-in- place, city living, community building and much more. The degree also allows students to complete a Minor in a complementary discipline such as Archaeology, Environmental Management, Social Justice or History, expanding their career opportunities. Students who wish to register as an architect can progress to the Masters of Architecture at Notre Dame.

 

Screen Arts Major

Notre Dame’s newly-launched Screen Arts Major equips students with communication and production skills to work with screen content and screen technologies across a range of industries. Our internship opportunities will ensure they receive industry experience and graduate prepared for the multi-disciplinary media landscape.

 

Screen Arts can be studied in the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Communications & Media, or as an elective as part of another degree. It is ideally paired with our Journalism Major or our new Photo media specialization. The Majors in Theatre Studies and Film & Screen Production have combined to become the new Screen Arts Major.


ECU

Students wishing to study medicine at Curtin or in another state in 2021 or those wishing to be accepted into the UWA Early Offer program need to do the University Clinical Admission Test this year.

New Pathway for Creative Course Applicants!

From 2021, many of our Creative Courses will offer high school leavers the opportunity to apply using a creative portfolio for course entry.

Fashion Weekend Workshops

ECU’s Fashion Weekend Workshops provide an introduction to creative draping methods for fashion research and construction.

Participants will be shown strategies for generating ideas for garment through sculptural manipulation of cloth and found garment. 

 

These intensive classes run every Saturday for five consecutive weeks from the 8 May - 5 June, 1pm-4pm, and are taught by Fashion Graduate and Designer in Residence D’arcy Coad.


Curtin Course Updates

  • Advanced Biomedical Sciences: Designed for high-ATARstudents, this new course offers two specialisations for students to choose from: Clinical Medical Science and Discovery Bioscience. View course.
     
  • Biomedical Sciences: This new course has three specialisations for students to choose from: Human Biomedicine, Molecular Genetics and Pharmacology. View course.
     
  • Nutrition and Food Science: Prerequisites for this course have changed. Applicants    need to have completed at least one ATAR course from: Biology, Chemistry, Human Biology,Integrated Science and Physics. View course
     
  • Update to Bachelor of Science (nutrition and food science) prerequisite
    Previously, applicants for this course needed to have completed Chemistry ATAR. Applicants are now required to have completed at least one ATAR science course from the following list: Biology, Chemistry, Human Biology, Integrated Science or Physics.

CQU Year 12 Applications Open Now

Principal Recommendation Scheme

The Principal Recommendation Scheme is an ideal entry pathway for all Year 12 students to CQ University's undergraduate courses whether you’re studying ATAR or not.

 

This means that as a Year 12 student applying for university, you no longer need to wait for    your Year 12 results to receive an early offer for your course*.

 

To be eligible you must:

  • Be studying year 12
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from your Principal  Applications now open.

Girls Engineering Tomorrow: 

Year 11 female students from selected WA schools

The Girls Engineering Tomorrow (GET) program targets senior secondary students studying high-level maths and offers them mentoring support, and exposure to engineering activities, courses, role models and careers.

 

The program will run for three years (2021 – 2023), with a pilot year in 2021. The program will be an intensive out-of-school course of 10 sessions of 2.5 hours run fortnightly over the school terms two and three at Curtin’s Bentley campus.

28 April Inspire in 5 for Students in Years 7 - 9

This event is open to all students in Years 7-9 and their families and teachers. Hear career stories from six of WA's women in STEM professionals who will give a short 5-minute presentation about their studies, career journey, and day-to-day work life, followed by an opportunity for students to ask questions in a facilitated panel discussion.

Someone asked Tom about when apprenticeships and traineeships would be advertised. He said that they publish an Intake Guide. Linda Winter from CCIWA sent this through. It has great information including dates when a number of apprenticeships and traineeships will be advertised.

 


Where to get good information about Gap Years for 2022

If you think a Gap Year could be a good option for you in 2022 you can find out about them at Youth Central which is a Victorian government site. The information about your options and what to be careful of is just as relevant to students in WA. 

  • The Youth Central site has information on studying overseas, scholarships and links to further information.
  • If you choose to take a gap year but think you might want to go to university later, you should still apply through the normal TISC process in August/September, then defer for a year once you get offered a place.

Year 10 Students will be attending the Expo next term!

 

This is on at the Perth Convention Centre from Thursday 29 April to Sunday 1 May. Entry is free and individuals and families are welcome. All West Australian universities, many 

training providers and industry representative will be there to answer your questions.
