Year 10 River Cruise

On Thursday 18 March our Year 10 cohort celebrated their annual social with a river cruise on the Swan River.  Students spent the night with their peers enjoying pizza, showing their best dance moves and taking in the night time views of the city. Thank you to the Year 12 SRC students, Year 10 Homeroom Teachers, Ms Murphy and Mr Wynn for accompanying us for the evening.

Campion Day

On Thursday 25 March, Campion House celebrated and remembered our founder, Edmund Campion, a martyr who was persecuted because of his passion and loyalty towards his Catholic faith. We look to Edmund Campion for inspiration, ultimately working towards fulfilling our House motto ‘faith and courage’.

Staff and students came together to celebrate who we are as a House; a passionate, lively, talented, caring and generous group of people. Students enjoyed participating in water activities; slip and slide proved very popular, particularly with our Year 7 students!

An important part of the day was the sharing of lunch together- sharing a meal contributes to stronger relationships and strengthens the bond of a Homeroom and of our House. A huge thank you to all Campion Staff, and the Maintenance and Sound team for their help on the day.

It was so impressive to see our senior students take up these opportunities to put wellness at the forefront of their minds.

ACC A Division Swimming Carnival

On Wednesday 24 March, our swimming team competed in the ACC 'A' Division Swimming Carnival. This year, the College provided swimming training sessions every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning to prepare for the big day. We welcomed back our specialist Head Coach, Courtney Ivatts and Assistant Coach Timothy Gillman to coach our swimming squad. Thank you to Ms Bianca van Duyn and Mrs Lorraine Holmes for assisting with the supervision of our swimming training sessions.

For many years, John XXIII College has been chasing Sacred Heart College in the ACC Carnivals. What has developed into a very healthy rivalry between the two schools, has also influenced a driving force and motivation within students and coaches to always strive for more. Due to the COVID-19 and cancellation of the 2020 Carnival, the Swimming Team has been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to shine in the pool. The competition was extremely tight between Sacred Heart, John XXIII College and Mandurah Catholic College. 2021 finally saw the changing of the guard. It is with the greatest joy that I announce that John XXIII College were the Overall Aggregate Winners of the ACC 'A' Division Swimming Carnival. A win that has eluded us since 1992. When the announcement was made our team literally jumped up in cheer and joy. It was a magical moment that will be cherished forever by all students and staff involved.

Special acknowledgement must go to all students who stepped up to fill events when others could not. This result was a true team effort that could not have achieved without the motivation, sportsmanship and cheering from all our team on the day.

Congratulations to Charlie Hodge for taking out the Champion U16 Boy and to our U14 Girls 4x 50m Freestyle Relay team, Annabel Hurst, Bianca Petsos, Emily Murdoch and Sylvia Czajko for breaking the record in a time of 2:01.66.
