Around The Primary

Dear Parents,

Holy Week, the most sacred week in our Church calendar commences this weekend with Palm Sunday.  As we have only one week left until Easter, let’s challenge ourselves and the children to turn off the TV and put away all devices. Instead, use this as a prayerful and reflective opportunity and to be present with your family or those close to you.

Next week, we will be participating in Holy Week Liturgies prepared by our Year 5 students.

On Wednesday 31 March at 9am, we begin in the Amphitheatre with the Palm Sunday and Holy Thursday Liturgies. All students will be involved by singing, praying and gently waving palm branches as Jesus enters Jerusalem. We ask all students to bring along a small palm branch/olive branch to gently wave during the ‘Sing It Hosanna’ song.

On Thursday 1 April, we continue the Easter Story with the Good Friday Liturgy in the Chapel. During this prayer service, students will reflect on all the people who Jesus came across on his journey to Calvary. Students in ‘B’ classes will celebrate this liturgy at 10am and ‘G’ classes will at 11am.  Parents are welcome to join us as we prepare for the great celebration of Easter.

Kind regards,

Monster Cake Stall

On Monday 22 March, the Year 6 Leaders held the annual Monster Cake Stall for our Primary students. Customers and stallholders alike had a fantastic, one-of-a-kind experience, selling and buying delicious delicacies.

During class STEM lessons, the Year 6 students were placed in groups and were tasked with creating a delicious sweet and savoury menu that catered to both vegan and gluten-free members of our school community. Once the menu was decided, they had to research the paddock-to-plate process of a common ingredient found in their menu. This information was displayed in an informative and creatively designed infographic, which was displayed at each of the stalls for the younger years to read and learn from.

It was a great opportunity for us to demonstrate our skills across a wide range of subjects including business and economics, social skills, mathematics, health and hygiene and home economics.

The Monster Cake Stall was a HUGE success and raised an amazing $968.85 to be donated to Project Compassion. An incredible result from an incredible day!

'Be More' - Justice

This week brings us to the end of our Fundraising initiative for Project Compassion.

This week students have been learning about the virtue of 'Justice'.  Our school motto ‘Seek Justice’ reminds us to strive to do our best to figure out what is fair, what is right and what is wrong and for everyone to feel like they are being treated fairly.

Sports Update

Our Year 6 basketballers had a fantastic day at the IPSHA Basketball Lightning Carnival.  The teams played 8 games and our students’ skills and teamwork developed and improved throughout the day.  It was great to see such strong spirit and sportsmanship being proudly displayed, even in the toughest games. Well done to all the players.

Wanju Voices at St Joseph’s Church

A number of students from Wanju Voices have volunteered to represent the College by singing at the 9am Palm Sunday Mass this Sunday at St Joseph’s Church in Subiaco. Everyone is welcome to come and celebrate this very special day in the Church’s calendar.

Holy Week Concert

The Holy Week Concert is a highlight in the College calendar. Primary Singers, Wanju Voices and Chapel Choir will be performing with the Secondary choirs at this special concert which combines beautiful music and liturgical reflection. All are welcome to attend this (non-ticketed) concert which commences at 7pm in the St Louis Sports Centre. All Primary students involved are required to meet Mrs Haydon in the GBLT at 6:15pm on Monday in full College uniform.

We Are Moving!

Students may have noticed a few changes in the Primary Music and Performing Arts Room this week. We are in the process of moving to the Osborne Room which will become the Primary Music and Performing Arts Room while building occurs around the College. All choir rehearsals and music/performing arts classes will move to the Osborne Room as of this Monday (29 March) for the remainder of the year. A separate communication will be sent to students affected by this change.
