On Friday 7th May, Year 9 and 10 PASS students and Year 12 SLR students were fortunate to have the NRL’s Wellbeing and Education Program attend Kildare to present a Career Wise program. The program is aimed at highlighting the benefits of Vocational Education and Training (VET) pathways and increase the status of undertaking a VET qualification. The workshop was presented by former NRL stars Luke Williamson (Canberra Raiders and Manly Sea Eagles) and Gavin Lester (Canterbury Bulldogs). The pair shared their experiences of juggling professional football careers while studying a trade. The presentation included stories of current Melbourne Storm players who are successfully completing a building apprenticeship and Dragon’s star Jessica Sergis who is completing a Childcare traineeship, all while playing professional rugby league. They emphasised the importance of having a long term career path and outlined study options for students to consider if they are interested in a VET or Trade qualification.
