Prayer

On Saturday 15 May, we celebrate the International Day for Families in this National Families Week. Let us remember our families in generations past, who hunted animals and cultivated crops, who learned new skills, who built communities, who shared their faith, who battled plagues and natural disasters, and who strengthened each other with love and care.

And let us remember our families of today, who face new struggles and challenges, but just like those before us, draw on love and care to survive. Together with those closest to us, we can model the hope for our global family sharing our Common Home.

Therefore, we ask God, the source and origin of all life and love, to bless our families today.

We pray for the elderly in our families and in our society …

May we listen to their wisdom and treat them with care and dignity.

We pray for all partners and parents …

May their love and faithfulness grow with the support of the community

We pray for all children …

May their families be a source of peace and encouragement.

We pray for all leaders …

May they promote and nurture family relationships.

God of life,

You reveal yourself in the love of our families,

help us to support each other through every generation.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
