Traditional Indigenous Smoking Ceremony
On Tuesday 30th March Bonnie Chew of the Wadawarrung people, performed a Traditional Smoking Ceremony at Beaufort Secondary College.
The Ceremony, designed to welcome people, clears negative energy from the area and was conducted in the school's front courtyard with some assistance from our senior students.
We would like to extend our thanks to Bonnie for taking the time to host this event for us while she was attending the school to assist with the workshops for the First Nations class.
Hands On Learning
Our Hands on Learning students have been busy in the workshop this week, completing odd jobs around the school and finishing off some of their own creations.
Hands on Learning provides selected students with the opportunity to engage in a wide range of tasks across all areas of the school. The program offers students the chance to learn and utilise new skills, encouraging them to develop their problem solving abilities while taking on various levels of responsibility.
Grade 6 Information Evening
On Tuesday 16th March, the college had its Grade 6 Information Evening for prospective students in 2022. It was exciting to invite families on site and show them our school.
The information session was run a little differently this year with School Captain, Jaelyn Brand (Year 12), Jet Kerr (Year 8) and Annie Kehoe (Year 7) joining our Principal, Mr Karl Schier for a “Chat on the Couch” Q & A session. The students were asked about their experiences at the school and what they felt the school had to offer new students in 2022. It was an entertaining and insightful session which was well-received by the families and staff in attendance. The evening was concluded with a BBQ and it was great to have so many families and staff stay back for a chat.
Thank you very much to all staff that contributed to the night and to Jaelyn, Jet and Annie for being part of the evening.
Year 12 Jumpers
During Tuesday mornings Assembly, Year 12 students were presented with their 2021 school jumpers. This is a significant achievement and recognises the students achievements in reaching their final year of schooling. The Year 12s were particularly excited when their jumpers arrived as they had been anticipating their delivery for some time.
New Shade Sails
At the beginning of Term 1 work was undertaken on the construction of new shade sails outside the school library. We are very pleased to announce that construction has been completed, meaning our students have more shaded areas to enjoy throughout the warmer months. Thank you to all involved in the lengthy process that brought about this fantastic result.
