The Resilience Project - Parent Session

Resilience is a core skill and often something we need to work on in the life-long challenge of self-improvement.  Last week, the staff at SPS attended another The Resilience Project presentation – this time by Hugh Van Cuylenberg.

Hugh is the founder of The Resilience Project, and it was great to hear his story and his passion for finding happiness and improving peoples’ mental health. He does amazing work across the country, and he delivers a heartfelt message that is good for all of us to hear.

Parents will have the opportunity to hear Hugh speak next week at The Resilience Project Parent Session via Zoom on Thursday May 13th. The invite was sent to all families via COMPASS this week, but is also included in this newsletter. The Zoom link can be found on the invite. We are one of 11 school in this presentation.

I encourage you to engage in this fabulous opportunity. Building resilience in our young people will help them in so many ways as they transition to adulthood. It is one of the key skills in keeping your mental health in check. It is something we all need to practise.

Education Week Events

In the month of May across the state of Victoria, we celebrate Education Week. Now in its 77th year, Education Week aims to positively profile and celebrate the strengths and achievements of Victoria's government education sector.

Education Week 2021 will run from 23-29 May and the theme is 'Building Connections'. The theme celebrates the connections between schools and local communities and strengthens bonds with families and carers.

Education Week is an opportunity for all primary and secondary schools, higher education, and early childhood services to showcase how they are building connections with the community around them.

We are opening our school for 3 main events across the week and would love to see our school community embrace this opportunity and come to celebrate with us.

Saturday 22nd May          Open Morning                 10.00am - 12.00noon

We are opening the Foundation Room for prospective 2022 families. Meet the teachers, take a school tour with our student leaders, walk through our Foundation room and discuss our Foundation program.

Tuesday 25th May            Open Night                         6.00pm – 7.30pm

Families are invited to join us for a fun night of activities across the school.

Grandparents and Special Friends Day                   9.00am – 11.00am

These special people are invited to join in class activities on Friday morning, and then share a BYO picnic at recess with their families.

Education Week is always a terrific week in schools, where celebrating learning, creativity and school connections are paramount. We look forward to seeing you over the course of the week.

School Review

The next school review for Scoresby PS has been set for Term 3. Each school undertakes a review every four years. The purpose of the school review is to evaluate the School Strategic Plan (4-year plan) and to monitor the school’s progress towards achieving the goals and improvement outcomes over the 4 years. The review is mainly data driven and, during the process, staff and students will be interviewed.

The review is set over 4 days:

  • Pre-Review Meeting - 14th July at 1.00pm (approximately 1 hour, held virtually)
  • Validation Day -  28th July
  • Field Work Day - 17th August
  • Final Panel Day - 18th August

A panel has been selected comprising an external reviewer, two external challenge partners (bringing their expertise to the conversations), Scoresby PS School Council President, two Scoresby PS members of staff, the Scoresby PS School Educational Improvement Leader, Assistant Principal and Principal.

Sporting Success

Over the past few weeks we have had many children participating in sporting events. Scoresby PS children have partaken in:

  • District Athletics – our school came 4th overall in Knox District
  • SPS Cross Country
  • Soccer clinics at school

Coming up soon:

  • District Cross Country – Friday 28th May

All of these events have been overseen by Ms Symons with help and assistance from senior school teachers. I would like to recognise their work, planning and commitment in making these events successful for our students. We love their smiles in these pictures!
