Term 1

Easter Raffle

Today we drew the Easter Raffle.  With all of the very generous donations of our families we were able to draw thirty-five prizes for some very luck families.

Student-led Walkthrough

Last Tuesday afternoon we welcomed families back to school as your children capably led you on a walk through their learning during Term 1, and a tour of the new school facilities. We launched URStrong as part of the afternoon and I know that many of you are now more familiar with language like 'friendship fires', 'mean-on-purpose' and 'talk it out'.  We are using this language across the school to help students understand that friends have disagreements but when they sit down to talk about it they can resolve the issue. Discussions also center around when it is appropriate to seek help from an adult.  Here are some of the displays that you may have seen on your walk through:

5/6 Camp

Last week our Grade 5/6 students enjoyed a wonderful four days at The Ranch at Cape Shanck.  Camps provide students with many opportunities to be challenged, for some it was their first time away on a camp, for others they tried new activities they had never done before, yet again more overcame fear of heights to take just that one step higher.  All of the students came away from came a little braver, stronger and more independent.  I would like to take a moment to thank Clare, Karen, Monique and Jenny for staffing the school camp, also to parent volunteers Luke, Bronwyn, Jodie and Gavin who gave generously of their time to support the experience for all students, without their help we would not have been able to go away.  Check out some of these photos:

Look at what is happening in Foundation

What a busy week in Foundation!

Over the last week, we have done lots of counting, collecting data and using the iPads during our Maths sessions. We have also had a visit from the Responsible Pet Ownership Program, where we were lucky enough to meet Mollie. Her owner, Leonie, talked to us about how to look after our pets, read their body language and showed us how to greet dogs we don’t know.

End of term

Today marks the end of Term 1 and we want to thank all of our parents for their support during this last ten weeks.  There have been snap lockdowns, restricted access for parents, more building works, new families joining and others leaving.  We want to wish you all a safe and happy holidays and look forward to seeing you all on Monday 19 April.

Late arrivals to school

Over the last two weeks we have seen a huge increase in the number of late arrivals to school.  School starts at 8:50am every day, students make their way to their classrooms and start to prepare themselves for their day, they touch base with friends, unpack their bags, get out notices, start their day in a calm, predictable manner. Students who arrive late, walk in to their classrooms in front of their peers, do not have time to settle themselves for the day and are rushed straight into their first lesson that may have started 10-20 min ago and everyone except for the late arrival knows what to do.  I ask that as a family you establish a morning routine that enables your child to be at school by 8:50, enabling them to fully participate in the beginning of the day school routines.

Junior Rockers

Term 2 we will see the return of Junior Rockers, a user pay instrumental music program. Junior Rockers teach keyboard, drums and guitar and run individual or small group A flyer is attached to the Community Announcements page of this newsletter.
