Student Work

A collection of student work from this week at Staughton College

Year 12 Media Studies - Media Video Blogs

To round out the year in Media Studies, we are looking at the dynamic and changing relationship between the media and audiences. We are looking at how new technologies have brought upon change to this relationship and are trying to answer the question; who really has the power? Last week, students had to research a recent event that showed this change and present a video blog to the class.

Here is an example by Faith Bugeja discussing the George Floyd protests. Please find links to more below.

Brodie Spalding - "TikTok Tulsa Tussle"

Tejay Lawrence - "George Floyd Protests"

Natty Anderson "TikTok and Trump"

Year 12 Psychology - Lotus Chart

Mrs Occhipinti's Psychology class has shown how they collaborate online with this lotus chart on the Nervous System. Students used Google Docs to collectively fill out this chart with key points about the nervous system. This is a great example of the students using High Impact Strategies like 'Cooperative Learning' and 'Using advanced organisers' while in remote learning.

Year 7 Computing - Animation

Our Year 7 Computing students have been learning about different types of animation, and have been using various computer programs to create some excellent work. Check it out below.

VCAL - Work Related Skills Projects

As part of the learning this term, students have been encouraged to develop their employability and project management skills with a hands-on project. This has included the production of 2 murals and 4 totem poles.

Students were required to use cooperative learning that emphasised group work and a strong sense of community.  The projects are influenced with an Aboriginal art perspective which the students enjoyed learning about as it allowed them to see the world with a different learning lens and how cultures are important to each other.

The adoption of Aboriginal art and culture concepts has resulted in positive change and improvement. Most importantly, project work has stimulated the classroom where students have been motivated to learn new techniques and skills, how to work in a team and how to plan a project with a focus on OHS.

Students hope to complete these projects when they are back on-site.

As part of the project, groups had to produce a presentation detailing aspects of their projects. Check them out below:

Year 10 Legal Studies

Students were asked to choose a legal law or rule they felt was unfair for young people, and identify it from a legal point of view and challenge.

Students were challenged to develop their critical thinking, logical reasoning and communication capabilities.  The article criteria is a minimum of 750 words, and builds on the learning in Term 2 of advocacy and the importance of young people speaking up for legal rights.
