HAPE Week Wrap-Up

Health and PE Week in 2020 was one we will not forget in a hurry! The week was brought to the online forum for the first time to showcase the importance of being a regular participant in physical activity. The week consisted of a variety of competitions, aiming to get students off the computer screen and out in the backyard. The week kicked off with a chalk-art competition, where students had to make up their best chalk drawing of an Olympic theme.

Next we had Mr McSweeney’s Move More Mission where students were asked to record their step count over the course of one hour of physical activity. We had some students ticking over 7000 steps which was a fantastic effort and great to see. Students also had the opportunity to write about their sporting heroes to gain a prize!

Wednesday was much anticipated where we asked students to demonstrate their abilities via a ‘trick shot’ from their sport of choice! It was great to see so many of our students demonstrating their talents. This was mixed in with some Olympic Trivia to get the mind moving.

Moving to the end of the week, it was time for students to display their best healthy meal and submit a photo. Some delicious entries came through, demonstrating our students’ skills in the kitchen, or possibly their parents’ skills! A dance competition was also on the agenda, where students weren’t too shy to make the lounge room their makeshift dancefloor.

Finally, on Friday our annual Sports Jumper Day was held, giving staff and students the opportunity to show off their favourite team’s colours. Our amazing VCAL students also created a catchy tutorial video of exercises to use whilst in lockdown!

Our aim was to get everyone off the computer for a small part of the day to enjoy a little bit of fun and most importantly some regular physical activity! We hope you all enjoyed the week and we look forward to HAPE Week 2021. If you would like to see what our students got up to through the week, please follow our Instagram page @staughtoncollege for some highlights of the week.

Thanks everyone and keep active!
