Maramba Vision

Providing a caring environment where aspirations are nurtured, positive relationships grow, success is celebrated and a passion for lifelong learning is ignited.

Nurture. Innovate. Celebrate.

Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Families,

R U OK DAY?

There’s more to say after R U OK?

This year has been a challenging year for everyone and circumstances have made it even more important for us all in the Maramba School Community to stay connected and, for those who are able and willing to support those around us.

You do not have to be an expert to keep the conversation going when someone says they are not OK. By knowing what to say you can help someone feel supported and access appropriate help long before they are in crisis, which can make a really positive difference to their life.

Before you can look out for others, you need to look out for yourself, and that is ok. If you are not in the right headspace or you do not think you are the right person to have the conversation, try to think of someone else in their support network who could talk to them.

One Man’s passion

R U ok? Day was founded by marketing executive Gavin Larkin in 2009. Inspired by the suicide death of his father Barry Larkin, Gavin hoped to encourage more people to take time to reach out to anyone struggling with life.

While collaborating with Janina Nearn on a documentary to raise awareness, the team quickly realised the documentary alone would not be enough, to genuinely change behaviour Australia wide. A national campaign was needed, from this realisation, and with Gavin and Janina’s expertise and passion, R U OK? was born.

R U OK?’s vision is a world where we are all connected and are protected from suicide. Their mission is to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with people around them and support anyone struggling with life.

Their goals are to:

  • Boost our confidence to meaningfully connect and ask about life’s ups and downs
  • Nurture our sense of responsibility to regularly connect and support others
  • Strengthen our sense of belonging because we know people are there for us
  • Be relevant, strong and dynamic.

Kind regards,
