National Gallery of Victoria Virtual Excursions

During this week, students were invited to participate in virtual excursions to the National Gallery of Victoria.

Exhibitions included Japanese Modernism and Marking Time (Indigenous art from the NGV collection.)

Shannon from Year 7 was awarded twenty prizes by our educator David.

Students on site who viewed Marking Time gave these reflections:

I like how they made the ochre paint… I thought it was an indigenous painting – I saw a flag and an emu.” Tayler

“It was pretty beautiful – I liked the stick ones (Mimih spirits).” Alex

“It was amazing, I liked how we drew the footprint of our favourite animal (a horse.) I wish I was on the screen too.” Bridie

I learned a few of the different artworks and art styles.” Adelle

It was really cool. I liked drawing the footprints.” Chloe

VCE students are using the Japanese Modernism exhibition as a source for their learning this term.

Please feel free to view virtual tours of the exhibitions at the NGV.

Onsite Learning

How wonderful to begin back on site this week with the primary students.

The Foundations and Year 3/4s study Visual Arts this semester and our focus at the beginning of this term will be ceramics. The Foundation students were lucky enough to have their first visit to the Pottery studio on their first day back at school. The students were exploring the qualities of clay and how to manipulate it.

The Year 1/2 and 5/6 students participate in Music and Performing Arts this term and we will be working on performance pieces to showcase our learning at the end of the year.

I am really looking forward to the secondary students next week!
