Tackle Your Feelings

Tackle Your Feelings (TYF) is a free mental health training program for community footy clubs and coaches. The program is presented by the AFL Coaches Association and the AFL Players’ Association and funded by Zurich Australia through its charity arm, the Z-Zurich Foundation.

The TYF program was inspired by a mental health education course developed for AFL professional coaches and players, consisting of a face-to-face presentation from a psychologist and  three x 15-20min online modules aimed at junior, youth or adult coaches.

The program aims to provide community coaches with the tools to understand, recognise and manage signs of mental health by:

  1. Raising awareness of mental health in the footy community
  2. Reducing the stigma associated with mental health
  3. Changing the behaviours associated impacting one’s mental health

Coaches that complete the full Tackle Your Feelings journey will be rewarded with six points towards their CoachAFL CPD requirements for 2020.

We're pleased to announce that we’ve been able to secure an online face-to-face session for the club on:

Date: Thursday October 15th

Time: 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Where: Online via Zoom

TYF has also organised for Tom McDonald to come along as a guest presenter, which will be a great opportunity to catch up on his news from the 2020 AFL season.

To secure your place in the workshop you’ll need to book in by 10th October. Here’s how...

  1. Enter via the mental health tab on the Coach AFL website, or register directly on the TYF website.

  2. Complete the 15 minute introductory module - Four Quarters of Mental Health.

  3. Book the “Edenhope-Apsley” workshop from  the ‘Workshops’ tab in the Coaches Box.

Looking forward to seeing you at the workshop!

RIPPER READER: Circe by Madeline Miller is a beautiful fleshing-out of the story of mythological goddess-witch Circe, daughter of sun god Helios, and ocean nymph Perse. Banished to the island Aeaea, Circe developed her skills with herbs and witchcraft, and is well-known for stories in which she turned sailors, who washed ashore seeking help, into swine. In this version, Circe endures exile, the unreasonable expectations of visitors to her island, and her own immortality. Miller has a beguiling way with retelling mythology, and I previously enjoyed her novel The Song of Achilles. Also recommended: The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker, a Trojan War novel.
