French at Hackham East Primary School

Bonjour à tous! Hello everyone!

Castle and Small Classes

This term students have been learning all about “Ma famille!” (My family!) They have learnt how to say the names of different family members, explored the masculine, feminine and plural words for ‘the’ and ‘my’, and made their own family tree. Students particularly enjoyed meeting the French family puppets and playing games to help them remember the words.

For the second half of the term, students will learn how to discuss the weather and learn the four seasons in French. This will coincide with learning some language about clothing suitable for different temperatures. Students will be participating in lessons through games, videos, songs, paired and group activities and worksheets.

They revisited the masculine, feminine and plural ‘the’ and ‘a’, along with creating their own “L’alphabet des animaux” (Animal alphabet).

In the second half of the term, students will be learning and practicing “Les prépositions” (Prepositions) and then use this knowledge to write sentences in French describing the placement of objects and animals. Students will also be able to guide (and follow) their peers around the playground using given instructions.

Years 6/7

This term students have been exploring “Comptines” (French nursery rhymes) and enjoyed learning a popular French children’s rhyme “Un Petit Cochon” used for choosing someone to be “It” for playground games. It is a very strange song about a magical pig. Students then created a picture book of the comptine, including French words and pictures to tell the story of le petit cochon. Some were able to read their book to students in the younger year levels and received positive feedback of their efforts. In the second half of the term, students will interact with each other and exchange personal experiences, feelings and both positive and negative statements in French. They will use a range of conjunctions, connectives and adverbs to do so
