Celebrating 10 Years
To celebrate 10 years of Wear it Purple day Maroondah City Council Youth Services are hosting an LGBTIAQ+ Pop-Culture Group Chat!
Wear it Purple strives to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for rainbow young people.
LGBTIAQ+ representation through media is such an important way to ensure that people feel seen, heard and respected.
This year, we are showcasing LGBTIAQ+ content in mainstream media and will be celebrating with an online group chat to discuss all the best rainbow books, movies, shows and musicians!

Wellbeing Photography Competition
Wear It Purple Day falls on the 28th August this year, and we would like to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this special day by holding a photography competition to allow students to express their Wear It Purple Day spirits!
We challenge you: use the colour purple in a unique way to make your photos extra creative. The most creative submission will win a $25 JB voucher!

Webinars for parents and carers to help build family resilience
Dear parents and carers,
On Tuesday 25 August, the Department of Education and Training is presenting a free webinar for parents and carers by renowned child psychologist Dr Michael Carr-Gregg, on building family resilience during coronavirus (COVID-19).
Parents and carers play a vital role in helping children feel safe through uncertain times.
Dr Carr-Gregg’s webinar is aptly named Managing the Coronacoaster – Tips for building resilient families in the coronavirus era.
In this webinar, Dr Carr-Gregg provides tools and strategies for parents and carers to help manage the lockdown and remote learning. Topics include:
* your supportive role
* setting the emotional tone
* focusing on what you can control
* how to deal with disappointment
* further resources and where to get help.
Dr Carr-Gregg’s presentation will run for 45 minutes. This will be followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer session in which parents and carers can ask Dr Carr-Gregg questions.
